Well the purpose of this thread is to collect a small amount of statistical information. Therefore, please vote in this poll.

I for one am of the opinion that it should not have been a numbered Final Fantasy, but instead called Final Fantasy Online. (Respectively, FF14 should have been called FF Online 2.)

Edit: I should clarify the following. The question more appropriately for what I am looking for people's opinions on is "Should Final Fantasy 11, as a MMORPG, been a numbered Final Fantasy title or should have it been the sire of a new side series of Final Fantasy games? (Final Fantasy Online or something similar.)" The question as it is currently phrased carries the wrong implications. (Implying that FF11 should have been a different game than what it was. Didn't mean that.) Sorry. Discuss in the thread based on this question.

Yes. Without it we would not have WoW, which despite its life sucking evil, is still a masterpiece.

I do like the idea of making it a spin-off. That would have been a better idea.

Keep in mind I'm not asking wether or not the game should exist. I just want to know how people feel about making it part of the main series of numbered titles.

Final Fantasy XI deserves its number and than some. The only thing people actually have a legit problem with FFXI is the monthly fee and how much grinding is in the game. However with recent updates after FFXIV came out, FFXI requires less time and grinding to make it to end game, and new end game events basically let you solo gods (I'm not joking. You can buy a potion that gives you 999 in all stats so you can 1v1 Shinryu) for free uber armor. It is a lot more casual now that Square Enix is trying to improve and move on to XIV. Too bad they need to improve XIV first, lol.

When it comes to characters, story, music, gameplay, ect. Final Fantasy XI has all the right stuff for the making of a great main title Final Fantasy game.

I forgot about that. The lore and mythology of the game is of a legendary level, greater even than most of the series put together.

For the simple fact it is an online only game does it not deserve to be numbered Final Fantasy title. The game does have the lore, the story, and everything else, but since it is an online game it should have been in it's own series ("Final Fantasy Online"). Final Fantasy I-X were all single player games with no online. It just seems a little random to make the next game in that series Online only with the one after it being a single player game.

This is not to say FFXI doesn't deserve praise (it kinda does), just that it doesn't need to be a full numbered game...

Personally, I think that if Square Enix thinks it deserves to be a numbered game, so do I. I see nothing wrong with an installment being online/MMORPG. After all, each game in the series is different, so why not make this one stand out from the crowd even more?

After all, FF XII is open concept, no random encounters, you can even set gambits to automate your attacks. Had they moved the chocobo, moogles and stuff they could have called it something completely different. Barely resembles other Final Fantasies.

Same could be said of Crystal Chronicles, but those aren't numbered games. That's my issue.

I think they should have done the MMORPG as an unnumbered release, not FF11. I would have wanted something else for that title. Despite that the MMORPG thing didn't go as big as World of Warcraft, I'd still think that it would be something worth adding to the series. I just don't like that idea of it having a numbered title like it was akin to the rest at that time.
