I'd like to hear why the community keeps banning this since it takes (quite literally) Jechts best stage away from him. I definitely can't see HIM being the problem here.

1. feral chaos doesn't seem to be banned (worst decision ever)
2. players tend to complain about fighting in tight spaces. Remember customs are to cater to a more casual crowd not to please a minority of players (just like banning kuja/seph/jecht assist would anger a few players and make them not want to play, most players dont care or would enjoy it)

Golbez+Ultimecia+less space

It's an advantageous stage for Golbez - definitely but he's not unbeatable there. If anything, it affords more opportunities to actually block Golbez (enclosed space means you're dealing more with his melee portions than usual) and land some riposte damage once people learn to properly punish Night Glow spam XD (Which may or may not happen if they keep avoiding the issue)

Ultimecia is a bigger problem in large spaces, honestly. She's a LOT easier to catch when she doesn't have as many fleeing options like gliding out of dodge punish distance. Also skills like precision dodge really help deal with some of the pressure she puts out on the train (ie: trying to get a quick break post HP)

As for the less space thing - I know for a fact Jecht feels more comfortable in that situation. Golbez has proven to make it worth his while. I'd assume Cloud makes a good stand there. Firion and Squall seem to do well there, too.

Honestly, the Train seems to just take a different kind of mindset. You're stepping outside of "normal Dissidia" where space, patience, and control are valued above all else and walk into a realm where mix ups, wake ups, pressure, and positioning become much more important. Those of you who play BB/SF/MK etc surely see these elements come into play and how it strongly corresponds to 2D fighters and the mentality you take on.

I just wanted to address the issue and see why it's continually banned in customs when there isn't anything fundamentally wrong with the stage as far as I can understand is all. Don't let me influence the tournament just because I'm curious on something XD

(Although discussion and analysis isn't a bad thing, either. Maybe it could change future opinions on the stage)

Not a loophole at all... that is the same as TKG telling me "oh and what about if I break my opponent while performing Hell's Gate during my Ex-revenge and finish him off out of mistake as such?". The definition of a final Ex-revenge is very concise and clear: the act of finishing off your opponent out of an Ex-revenge. Everyone knows it when they see it or about to do it.

The problem with final Ex-Revenges in limited/no assist environments is the whole "I stand here like a dick-bag waiting for my opponent to attack me so that I can finish him off". While you can bypass them in Official by assist-camping, they completely interrupt the flow of battles when it comes to those rulesets, hence the ban.

You're making it more complicated than it is. Final Ex-revenges = the act of finishing off your opponent out of an Ex-revenge. Anyone who played the game for more than thirty minutes knows what this sentence means, yet you'll always have a """"competitive"""" crowd who will try to find "loopholes" in obvious definitions and ask them to be as precise as possible in length despite that they already speak by themselves in short. Stunts like that never happened in the previous no-assist customs, anyway.

I'm just thinking that the possibilities are extremely low that this would even occur and if it was someones game plan to do so in this ruleset - the risk/reward seems fine. I'm giving up gimping your EX game (which inadvertently puts me at risk of losing my assist anyway) to have a "secured" victory. The other interesting thing is that Final EXRs only really work on melee characters or anyone with short ranged attacks since the 1 second EXR wouldn't allow you to close much distance without the help of an assist.

Of course, it's not my tournament but looking at the ruleset, it seems more like a strategic placement than a "loophole". I mean in Chess you don't always need to take all the pieces to win the game. If you pin the King, that's good enough. A "final EXR with an assist" is more like a checkmate in my eyes. I'd get quite a bit of pleasure from landing that situation and as well, I'd have no choice but to concede defeat in the face of it. It gives characters like Prishe a solid chance at saying "Fuck you, HPs or not - I've GOT you".

If I'm overlooking something here (mainly if EX mode does NOT drain assist meters), then please let me know why this is so bad in this ruleset?

Edit: To make it clear since I don't want to be misunderstood - it is precisely the LIMIT on assists in this ruleset that I think makes this viable. I would NOT consider it viable in other rulesets where there is free flow of assists and EXRs are deemed banned for the tournament. The statement is made because this is a custom ruleset which means normal means to play the game needs to be looked at again and from different perspectives.

Custom rulesets will always have this kind of unsettled mentality around them because they have no time to breathe or grow. Discussions like this need to happen as a result. I'm not just trying to stir shit up.

A serious question: What do you do if say I'm Jecht and you're Exdeath. I'm at full health and you're critical - one hit to KO on all accounts. We're on a stage where you can reliably just RP back and forth completely stalling the match? It's not undoable. Heck, it's not even hard in most levels. If you do this, I will never be able to catch you so long as you're competent with your spacing. Isn't that the same kind of "dick-bag" move? Doesn't this stop the match in the same kind of way?

A more serious issue: is there any way to enforce this? How can you determine between "strategically widdling down your opponents patience" and "just being an ass"? This - in essence - the same problem in reverse. Interestingly enough; Exdeath can do this to more than just Jecht (anyone with semi-limited range) in this ruleset. In testing, I was able to effectively do this to a lot of characters on OCS, WoD, Lunar, Rift, Crystal, Dreams End, OS, and EP. I had limited success on Pandy Top, and Crystal Tower. This was inspired by X-Zones play around the Crystal in Lovey Dovey by the way (except Exdeath is much more effective at running than Kefka in most accounts XD).

Just more food for thought. I'm not sure what other characters can realistically do in terms of "questionable" strategies in this ruleset.

No matter how you look at it, a Final EXR is still a Final EXR. The opponent is still facing an ugly checkmate situation with no way out whatsoever; validating this by adding an assist attack is… the very definition of a loophole quite frankly. Besides, it’s true that it is unlikely to happen in this ruleset, so… why overcomplicate a simple rule.

Also, I hope my (now infamous?) crystal tactics aren’t being misunderstood. The main reason I use the crystal as cover is to cast WWF and Trine safely, not unlike Ehxdeath’s rock camping in Phoenix to cast Maelstrom out of arrow range. Enraging opponents is merely a possible bonus XD; and I should stress it’s nowhere close to being an invincible strategy (Herman tried my own Kefka tactics against me in Lovey Dovey actually).

Exdeath could theoretically RP around like a douche yeah. It's pretty hard to enforce a rule against such behaviour, but really… at least in this ruleset he won’t be gaining assist at a crazy rate or comboing you from his segway ceiling rushes if you get hit by his antics.

Also, Zone, I'm not misunderstanding your Crystal tactics - just used it as a platform to abuse this ruleset XD I haven't really been around the last week or so so I haven't been able to address these issues I wanted to - it was someone bringing up the assist+final EXR that brought my attention back to the topic. I still only see that happening in the most lopsided of matches anyway which is why I don't really see it as an issue but rather more of a gameplan in this ruleset.

Of course, you all know how I feel about stuff that isn't specifically broken.

The comparison with X-Zone, Kefka and his halo-camping around the Crystal is terrible. Exdeath RPing all over the stage is a well-known stunt existing ever since the dawn of 013.

That becomes a form of assist-camping when it comes to 012, and is the mere reason of why matches involving Exdeath are always long as hell; but honestly, let's be down-to-earth and stop trying to find loopholes in everything just for the sake to be "lol competitive": if you're RPing all over the place in spite of your assist-gauge is already full and you aren't on the omega version of Planet's Core (wherein the brave-pool increases more by the time for the record), you are blatantly trolling.

It's even more apparent in a ruleset like DMD and, quite frankly, I don't need to make a stupid rule to DQ you for that shit. Stunts like that never happened in customs anyway, and they never will.

Prishe can still land the HP finishing off the opponent without the help of an assist. It's hard, yes, but by no mean is it impossible; if anything, the blame strictly falls on a poor strategy of her part, yet said mistake can still be made up. The fact and the matter is the situation you are advocating is completely black and white.

12500 maximum HP, to prevent regen builds becoming overpowered.

1250 maximum base brave, to prevent chippers ruling supreme. Not a problem if the stat is higher at the start due to 'first to victory', it's the base stat that's the issue.

That's brilliant. Throw all the players from the US in one pool, then split up the rest of the entrants by country or city or something, and then have them go round robin. The top player from each pool goes to the finals. That would be AMAZING.

Since this nonsense keeps happening, I really need to make it known so everyone can be aware: the W-Lan switch on my PSP has started going dysfunctional. It will randomly time out and disconnect me even though it's actually on. Some times I can go hours playing without anything happening, sometimes it'll happen every other match. Zelphyr and Khellendros can attest to this.

My primary concern is that if it happens to occur during the final stages of a match or during the killing blow (or during any part of the match for that matter), please know that I'm not ragequitting in anyway. If that occurs, the other person will clearly take that match, there will just be no replay.

But my good man, you should know by now--that where there's DP, there's always derp around the corner. I mean look at TLW for example; I derped teh rail in our super srs pool match for teh lulz and we both hit back with equal amounts of derp and super srs hits.

Nah, I don't need Ultimecia, even though she is my main I want to play other characters this tournament, I just got to get used to DMD XD I felt the lack of judgement of action on my part due to the inexperience. Btw I was lightning and omega was WOL :p
