View Full Version : Final Fantasy VII Release Confirmed

Square Enix have just confirmed that Final Fantasy VII's PC rerelease is real.

We reported that Square Enix had working versions of the PC ports for FF7 and FF8 on Steam back in June of 2011. Rumours resurfaced last month, a year on, when an official website for the game was accidentally leaked by a Square Enix blunder.

That website is now online.

The game has been improved to actually run on modern hardware - unlike the previous PC port - and will ship with 36 achievements and the ability to share your profile online. This version of the game will also support Cloud Saves, meaning you can save on one PC and pick up elsewhere.

The 'Character Booster' will essentially let you cheat - need an item? A level up? A skill? You can add it to your character easily. This is likely based off the fan-made JENOVA software which let you do just this on the original FF7 PC port. Square Enix were experimenting with several fan-built patches when we reported on the PC versions last year.

It seems Steam has been canned, though - the website specific states the game will be "Available Exclusively on the SQUARE ENIX Store." The announcement trailer below backs that up.

Canning Steam will be a mistake...

They probably figure that they'll make more money without using Steam as a medium for the game's sales since they won't have to offer a slice of the profits. Wonder how that's gonna work out?

Now if only the ps3 remake was released. Then they be in business.

I wish I could believe this was real, and all the evidence lies in front of me, but this gets announced about a month after they say "We can't remake VII because we haven't surpassed it yet" REALLY makes this one seem like some kind of late april fools joke on their part or a very cleverly devised hoax like with Universal Tuning's Lightning "reveal."

This isn't a remake. It's a port.

Edit: Just realized: NO GAMEPLAY shown in this video at all. None. It's just FMV.

...I've been told I have a very difficult time telling the difference between the two, so if that entire paragraph just became retarded thats why.

this isn't a full remake, it just the pc version from 1998 with new features and upgraded to work on modern hardware/Operating Systems

I thought FFVII was already on PC... hmm.

Well, I doubt they'll make a PS3 remake of the game, since this seems to be just a port.

I'm sorry but I'm finding this whole thing hilarious.

So like I go to their main site: It doesn't load properly at all. WAY too much stuff going on at once. Literally all I can see are half loaded images before my browser or internet says "Fuck that shit. There's like a million things to do at once."

Then I check out the 'extra features.' I laugh.

Sorry but I don't think the 'extra features' are worth me picking up the game AGAIN. Like look at the features:

1. Ability for me to save a game and then use my file on another computer. Look at me: I'm oozing with excitement over this.
2. Blatant cheating. Now I'm not sure exactly how this 'character booster' works, but did anyone else think "Oh, Lucky 7s!"
3. OH WOW ACHIEVEMENTS. Wait, no, I don't care.

I wish the trailer had shown us gameplay at least instead of nothing but FMVs.

I'm sorry, but the advertising of this game is just.... awful.

Yeah, I noticed that too - only FMV.

It would have been nice to show some of the actual gameplay. I mean, c'mon, throw out people using Limit Breaks or throwing out Summons. Spitting magic. Show Cloud smackin' down soldiers on his bike, or shreddin' the powder up at Icecycle Inn. That's a thing right? "Shreddin' powder?"

No Steam support seems...silly. I mean, not to get a game simply because it's not on Steam is no reason to not get it. Steam is nice and convenient and all, but if you have and use Steam, then by all means you can get a game straight from the developer's eStore...except for it you're using Steam Bucks, or whatever they're called that we've sold very little of at my store >.>

Maybe the idea here is to test the waters and see how many people bite, since there are so many people who don't have access to the PSX/PSN versions of the game, and the PC port was...well...iffy.

Do they have a list of achievements? I want to know if I've already got them all playing the game on PS1.

Find yourself stuck on a difficult section or lacking the funds to buy that vital Phoenix Down? With the Character Booster you can increase your HP, MP and Gil levels to their maximum, all with the simple click of a button, leaving you to enjoy your adventure.

You hear that, guys? FFVII without the challenge, coming to stores near you.

Seriously, what the hell. I find no enjoyment in playing a game with very little challenge to it.

I literally have no point in buying this. I have three physical copies (one black label, two Greatest Hits) and the PSone Classics version. Plus, I already made, by my own hands, a 100% completion file (all items, materia mastered, et al) for both versions.

No significant, new features was the nail in the coffin for me. Seriously, they could not, at least, add a bonus dungeon or new superboss? Come on. :/

What I don't get is why it needs 1 gig of RAM to run. I'm pretty sure most computers couldn't even handle 1 gig back when it was first released, and I don't buy that online features require that much memory.

Thx for the information, but I think I'll stick to my PS copy of FFVII.
I wouldn't want to start all over again.
Plus Why Pc? 360 or Ps3 would have been abetter choice to me.

FFVII is already on the PSN store. And Final Fantasy 7 on 360? Can you imagine the fanboy rage on Gamefaqs? xD

What? You got the 100 Vagyresk Claws?

Eh, I don't mind 'no challenge' in FFVII. One of my favourite things I love doing in FF games is 'breaking them.' Basically play them by being completely overpowered but not cheating.

This 'Character Booster' thing is... well it's basically cheating.

I want a list of achievements also. Then I'll basically tick off what I have and haven't done.

What? You got the 100 Vagyresk Claws?I'm not crazy; I exploited the W-Item materia whenever I could. It certainly helped with the hours of Magic Pot grinding.

As long as it is not blantent cheating, I'll "break" a game as much as I can. Final Fantasy VII is certainly not an exception; however, I feel the "character booster" takes the spirit out of things. :/

That much I can agree. I "100%" the game to how I feel. That's pretty much everything except getting 100 of each item. I just settled with collecting everything and then only really 1+ of each item that could be won in battle (such as the claws.)

Possibly could this be a hint that Versus is near end production and it's looking hawt?
