You can farm and train at the same time. ;) One char can jump tens of levels even in the easiest course. Then once they get high enough level, take on the next course.

Battle the character who's item you want enough, and they will eventually pop up in the shop.

I would suggest running through a Distant Glory Story line on Special Day with Black Chocobo Course on

when you get an exp or bonus day equip them with chocobo down, feather and wing .

then go quick battle (i prefer easie because thats effortless) and select an apponent and give him 10 levels higher as you...

fight, every fight will give you a level :D if you use exburts some fights will even give you 2 levels.

(i got gabranth to level 100 this way in only 3 hours)

Chocobo down, special day, exp bonus x5, with magic pot (not the auto version) against a lvl 100 maximum Exdeath with either calm or vicious behavior. I have jumped over 60 levels this way in one fight. A wide open stage would be best too imo.

I level my characters on a Maximum/Vicious Jecht. He's a tough cookie.
