If you couldn't tell by the title, I'm interested to know which version is more preferred among the community. So which version of this game do you like better and why?
I personally preferred the DS remake because the characters had individual personalities and stories (and the improved 3D graphics didn't hurt either :D).

I like the DS more. :)
The characters have names and their own profile. :)
Plus Luneth was awesome as an Onion Knight. :)

The ds remake. It had better info on Aria, Arc, and Ingus. Also better graphics naturally. Plus Refia is awesome... XD

I prefer the DS version, but you can't beat the original.

Going by this logic you should have choosen the original snes version.
I dont think anyone would take the original Snes over the DS version. Unless its some old person who only perfers it because of the nostalgia.

A remake will fail if players would prefer the old one. :)

I now realize that a majority of people seem to like the DS version, but that doesn't mean there aren't people like this that would prefer the original for some reason or another.

I only played the original one. The remake... bored me.. and I've still yet to even get past the first dungeon of the DS version.
However same could be said for the NES version. But once I beat the Djinn, I got into FFIII. I would play it again sometime soon.

Kraid just has too be the one. Maybe you should have kept up with FF3 DS. It's not all that great but its worth playing past the 1st dungeon.

FF3 wasn't on the NES it was on the famicon so unless you were born in Japan, you shouldn't have fond memories of it.

I didn't expect that someone would vote for the old version. :)

no, I chose the DS version but I was implying that it probably wouldn't exist w/o the NES version

This is partly true. Yes, it was on the Famicom (I don't know why in my post I said NES. But I always associate the two things together despite the fact they're different. Not that much into Nintendo despite my username...)
But people can have importted Famicoms. =P You don't NEED to be Japanese if you're lucky.
And yes I did have to be 'the one.' But I had more of a pleasent time with the Famicom version than trying to do the DS one. Plus at the time I had many more DS games to play. FFIII on the DS seemed so slow compared to the one on Famicom.
(Plus from my experience seeing my friend play the DS one... it seems the Famicom one is alot harder also. I like challenge.)

I've only played the DS version, so my vote wouldn't count...but I saw screenshots of the original, so I guess the DS version is better since it had better graphics.:/

I just recently downloaded the famicon game and played it on a NES emulator, I think it's WAY better than the DS version.
The DS version kind of.....felt "weird" in the sense that it didn't feel liek "final fantasy" right away.(I also didn't know that there was a row system, so I went through the majority of the game with half my party dead which made me irritated ROFL!).
To me, original video games with crappy graphics are really fun, I don't know what it is about crappy graphics but it's just addicting somehow.
And for the record, I'm 18. I wasn't even BORN when FF3 came out on the famicom XD! Missed it by 1 year hahaha =P
I never had a NES or whatever (before my time) and as far as I know it was never imported to the PSX or the GBA so remake all the way. I also like that they gave the characters personalities and names, and beefed out other stuff.

DS, because the characters actually have their own stories. They aren't just generic soldiers... >.>

Actually, the Onion Knight was on there. It was a secret class available through the first Mognet mission. It could equip everything but the job exclusive weapons & it was pretty shoddy up to Job Level 90, or so. After that though, it was the best. It could also use all 8 levels of White & Black magic, but not Summon magic.

DS, The characers are actual characters instead of nameless people with no feelings whatsoever
Besides i think its more challenging but that's a personal opinion

Original version. I like games where the main character(s) is/are very obscure. Also, Final Fantasy III and IV on the DS didn't have that same, 2D home-made feel. It seemed a little... over the top? That's just me.

I prefer the original. There are many reasons why, some superficial perhaps, but I really really enjoy the pixel art and chip-tune music much more. They have their own personal charm. Final Fantasy III is a great game, but also a product of it's time. I like being able to look back at a game created with the limitations of the hardware at the time.
Also, it may sound odd, but I liked how the 4 orphans had no preset personality or character. In the end, they really didn't need to be called Luneth, Refia, Arc, and Ingus, because the main focus was the journey that they went on. These four kids were anyone you wanted because they were orphans with no real past aside from being adopted by Topapa and living in Ur.
The DS version certainly isn't a bad game. I'm glad FFIII finally got an overseas release, but the game didn't really need a 3D facelift. It's still a 2D game. I dunno. It's really up to you, but I would play the original :D

Depends on what you want. Really, you're choosing a difficulty level and graphics level, and that's really the main differences. Original FFIII was quite a bit harder than the original, especially in terms of CoD. In both, you pretty much have blank slates and you're building them up how you choose.
I played the original online a few years ago, and I loved it so much more than the DS remake. I don't know why, I this may seem really retarted, but I felt like the music is better in the original, it has that horrible NES sound chip sound, but it also hits the right beats and the right mood of the song. Also the opening of the original is a bit more fun and more forgiving, you have all of the onion knights with you, expect just Luneath surviving by grim luck. It gives you a feeling that you're on a adventure with friends, and the DS version gives you a more serious, somber and unforgiving feeling.

DS.
The DS one is a bit similar to FF IX (which I love).
And yes upgraded graphic.
