This is a shout out to all of you, i want your opinion on this one thing about lectures/ recitations.... are you like me when i say lectures are free territory for Browsing the dissidia forums?? or playing computer games??? Also on that note, what do YOU do to break down those tedious classes to a great time with possible funny comments from the teachers???

*Edit-(I mean... I'm such an attentive student sir/m'am, I love your class... xD)

Well, having been on both sides (i.e. student and teacher), as long as it doesn't hinder anyone else's "learning experience", it's not a problem. In college, it's your money, your choice.

True words are spoken, I agree completely with this fact, the point i'm trying to make here is not simply to screw off and do nothing but ignore the professor, I mean what do/did you do on those LONG days when the tedium stacks to a monumental level and you; rather than doze, seek to pay attention and do something else to entertain yourself with at the same time, that is just the Multi tasker in me i suppose

I guess I misunderstood the question :P. For me, if I didn't feel like a particular lecture or class was worth it, I just didn't go XD. However, there were some classes in which I genuinely had an interest.

Towards the latter part of my college career, classes were taped and I resorted to watching them online at 2x speed and fast-forwarding through the questions from "that one student" XD. Nothing like spending 20 minutes on a 50 minute class.

Yes, that right there is exactly what i was going for, maybe I'm at fault for incorrect phrasing?? o well on the other side of things, You are incredibly lucky...... I wish my classes were taped, i could use my nights to do something other than Playing Games with no multitask xDDD

Heh, I did the exact same thing. Instead of trying to take down notes on a piece of paper and falling asleep, I'd have a word document open and either Firefox or MSN Messenger open and jump between the two. It worked especially well when my professors taught out of a PowerPoint presentation.

I mean, there was even one day where I was reading about Orcas on Wikipedia during my International Macroeconomics and Finance class. >_>;

As long as we use computer in class, I always take a look at the forums. :)

Especially if the lecture is available in the net. :)

When I was at course I would jump on the forums from time to time but thankfully I've finished college (Educational system is different here xD) So I only do Digital Media Design which is enough to make me pay attention so I'm not really distracted unless we're doing boring work like analyzing advertisements or something..

In college though, I paid attention to the teachers only because they were able to make subjects interesting. I hated Economics though, I never paid attention in that class.. and Japanese was stupid, our teacher lied to us and he had favorites. But my History teacher was awesome, he didn't care what you did in his class. As long as you weren't disturbing the learning of others its fine. xD

Now there's something i haven't been able to find a real way to do in class, take out and inconspicuously play dissidia, ill add that to my what to do on idc week xDDD

Well, it's only one class I can get away with it. See, it's a computer lab, and there's always people typing so it helps cover up the noise of the very loud UMD. Plus the desks the computers are on have these like...shields around the sides, so if you keep the PSP under the desk, it's okay.

Plus with a hat like mine, if you can't see my eyes it's hard to tell whether or not I'm actually paying attention. Or sleeping through class.

Aha, well that's lucky enough for you dude, I get stuck as a computer science major in small labs where we have a chair and a desk; thats it... thank god i've got a laptop on the side at least xD

I remember playing FFXI through all three of my classes xD If you sit as far back as possible near the walls, without any space for your instructors to walk past & behind you, its easy.

Most of my classes I actually have to pay attention to lectures as that's the only thing that will be on the test DX
My Bio teacher was a real ass by having all the test be 10 multi choice questions (5 answers each) and each question being so obscure it was mentioned for like 3 seconds...
Needless to say over half the class failed off the bat and only 2 people even got an A =/ I was pulling in a C DX

Doing so in any of my classes would immediately drop your grade to a C. Yes, lectures are THAT important; which can be a pain.

Oh well, I'll settle for three part multi-tasking...

I have definitely spent some class time looking through the auction house and running around Jeuno/Whitegate. XD Granted, it wasn't until my fourth year that I got a laptop capable of playing FFXI, and I wasn't exactly playing very enthusiastically anymore by that point. I shudder to think what would've happened if I could've done so in my first year of college.

Personally I am a declared Computer science major with a minor specialization in Video Game Programming xP

OBJECTION..... I say this as a person with no real law experience, and swiftly I am shot back down to waiting for jury duty T.T, but yeah that's awesome but also must be a right damn demanding curriculum eh Liang?

How was the curriculum for both of you? Those are a handful of majors I haven't gotten much iteration on before.

Jugil
02-05-2010, 06:43 PM
Well, I spent eight years in college, and there is quite a bit of overlap (though from different viewpoints) between structural and mechanical engineering. Given those points, the curriculum wasn't too bad.

High five kirbs, we be rulin' da court an' stuff.

Actually, I'm planning to branch out into business law and stuff. That particular curriculum is very syllabus-heavy and full of legal charters to learn. It's a lot more different from US law because Singapore uses the UK law system, which is very.. static and non-dynamic. So usually one OBJECTION is all it takes to win the case. Much less arguing here, moar paperwork. Epic boring, but epic cash $_$

the political science curriculim is core, you learn what your supposed to learn which is the game of politics and how to play it.

philosophy is also core, you learn about the major thinkers, (even modern ones espically in law) and see the aims and learn to see the two sides of every debate of course in my class since the people are stuck up and mostly either suck ups or stubborn as hell they cant learn to appreciate such love for the art

business/corporate law is not my aim
i dont really care where the cash is since im the kind of person who prefers to make a difference over cash
criminal/family law is my game

Okay; new thoughts of courses in a Major Requirement spring to my mind; What're the most ridiculous and non sensical generic B.S that has nothing to do with your major do you have to do; for me i suffer under the Requirement of having to do 3 Chemistry and 1 Physics class; FOR A COMPUTER SCIENCE MAJOR???? 1st time i saw this I was like damn; I thought i got out of high school garbage already...(No offense to Science Majors of Course; i merely find that it makes no sense for my major)

Haha, hopefully I get those when I'm in college. I'm also going to do a Computer Science major and Undeclared minor for a bit. I'm hoping more languages open up so I can minor in one or two of those (I'm a language whore http://www.emoticonize.com/archive/bfc188.gif).
