How do you play Cecil?

Check some tournament videos. A-ther/Aether, and Ghurdich are good Cecil players to learn from.

I myself use Cecil for BRV building, so I use the Force Begets Courage acc.

K, so, I'm not the best Cecil player ever, but Cecil is a huge punisher. His attacks are too slow to go on the offensive, so you have to wait until the enemy messes up for you to attack. Dark Knight's aerial moves can be used for some mindgames as well, but generally you can get a bit more offensive with it than Paladin, because Paladin's attacks take much longer to actually hit. Oh, damn. If I have to be patient and block and punish, I can't play Cecil. I fail horribly at blocking.... Maybe Tidus is more of my character.

If you hit with Searchlight (or know you'll hit), if you use Paladin Force while the beams are hitting your enemy Cecil will fly in and hit the enemy with Paladin Force.

also the fact that almost everyone expects it, however i think you should do dark cannon > dark flame since some characters can dodge out of dark cannon

I'm having huge trouble landing the searchlight > paladin force. Dark cannon > Dark flame is really good, but yeah. SL> Paladin Force/Arts thing is hard. Any help on that?

You pretty much have to predict that SL is going to hit. It's a pain, but it's his only ranged attack as a Paladin, so...

EDIT: And now looking back Dark Cannon > Soul Eater does moar damage. o.o

it does more damage, but no one i have faced has ever escaped from dark cannon > dark flame whereas dark cannon > soul eater can be dodged out of

Really? I've never had anyone dodge out of Soul Eater except in extreme lag.

well, all the computers ive faced in blackjack have dodged out of it, it maybe because computers respond really fast

There are also people who have extreme timing with tha combo. I have never landed that combo against my friends...

Here's just a random battle I made, it displays a bit of my strategy, normally I change jobs in EX Mode to change my BRV combos, but I don't usually keep my strategy.

When I play with Cecil I tend to combine bravery attacks in order to bring the enemy close, wait for landinglag or braverylag and then HP attack. I also use Dark Flame to keep my enemies on their toes. Also, the wonderful combo when switching from Dark Knight to Paladin in the air is something I love in tight quarters.

I'm Paladin-centric when using Cecil, I only use DK when I'm forced to.

Paladin is great, speedy and hard to miss with him. DK is also cool, his strength makes up for his lack of speed...

I also us more of his DK form than his Paladin. I use it for playing defensively. also, I tend to go offensively sometimes with it due to Valiant blow's range. :D. Also, I find more room for variety and options in Dk than Paladin. I also win more with DK than Paladin. But against players like Zidane, tidus, Gabranth, I tend to focus more on paladin mode.

Oh I see. So that's how to use Pal mode. Maybe I ought to practice pal mode more. :D. Cause I rely more on punishment than speed using Cecil..

PAL has more combos in which to "lock" your opponent, they're semi difficult to pull off, however. But his speed is great.

Well I'm not really impressed with Paladin's Speeed so I think of sticking to DK cecil for the time being.

I usually open up with pally combo then depending on a my BRV to their HP comparison, I'll either spam searchlight or use it to distract them as I use pally force :p

overall I don't like Cecil for the sheer fact he's just a melee version of shantotto *wait for your opponent and hit accordingly*.

I do admit he has better approaches that Shan but that's the whole challenge of using her :3

Rambling aside. Cecil is easy to counter. Learn to use your enemies attacks against them is the best course of action *if a turtle... I don't know what to do =/ Bait?*

I play Cecil mostly for his ground game, so he is more often than not, in his DK form...

obviously for certain stages and such, and for mind games, Cecil in paladin form is necessary... but I just love his DK form, its what attracted me to him in the first place

I try to play a balance of both, but I find myself to be in his DK form more often.

Cecil's basically for punishing, since most of his attacks are too slow to use out of the blue.

I use paladin more often, I prefer staying in midair although I also like his Dk form for dealing massive dmg especially with an activated critical ability, His chase DMG is above average compared to other characters similar to Tidus though its pretty useless against humans..

cecil can actually be very effective in ending battles quickly, equip first strike ability a nice attack build, when dark knight use valiant blow ( will most likely break ) you'll probably have a good 3000 brv use a summon to triple your bravery, then it should be smooth sailing, its hard to predict valiant blow cuz its a very fast attack which actually makes cecil so tough

Somewhat ironically, I was actually playing as Cecil earlier. I think I'm starting to like him more, now that I have Paladin Arts. Now all I need is some kind of Dark Knight Arts & I'll be set.

I've started using DK form a lot more lately, I swapped his attacks out with some really random ones and it's working so far.
