There's a lot of nice sigs this week! @.@ It was hard picking one...

But I voted for Xeltos' 2nd sig. I love the contrast between the colors and the color itself.
Other sigs that caught my eye are Terra's 1st and BEYNd.

Or does that rule mean the combined size of pixels? Meaning that if the sig is... say, 350x190, it's within the limit because it has a fewer amount of pixels combined?

I would say the size limit is just relative, Just as long as it's not too BIG and doesn't stretch the page Horizontal/Vertical so it doesn't disrupt the viewers screen.

That's what I've been stressing, that people give reasons for their vote, something well-beyond "I liked it because it's [insert favorite thing here]."

This is supposed to be about artwork, giving critiques. Why you like something, or why you chose one over another. It helps us grow, know what we can work on to become better.

Repliica even put that in the Voter's Rules. Nice to see hardly anyone adhering to them >.<

No MoD, it's actually not. It's a Graphics Contest, not a "vote because it has your favorite character" contest.

The contests are supposed to challenge our creativity and artistic skill, as well as have us come together, and give critiques, tips, and support each other to become better.

I personally think it's stupid to see someone who's done almost no work walk off with all the votes, just because their graphic has a character in it that people like, when the graphic itself shows almost no effort. Or even so, just people voting for someone's piece because they're friends with that person.

What's the point in trying to enter something you put a lot of work into when it's not going to be appreciated for what the effort, skill, and heart you put into it, just because it doesn't have some fucking Touhou character in it.

Hey Belts. I work just as hard. If not harder to do most of these gifs. Both the background, characters *MS paint and zoom 800% with a pencil tool :V*, and transparency eraser *I don't like magic wand as it kills the black border around the character since it puts it at like a 30-60% opacity DX* at roughly 400-800%zoom depending.
What I'm getting at is. Even though it looks much like the original when it was first made... I'm touching it up second hand from youtube half the time :V *for the gifs anyways*. I do admit. For some submissions if I'm really lazy and don't plan on using the avatar etc afterwords I might just go and look for a really good picture and run several layers/color tones/etc on photoshop. Though from what I heard from others it was okay. I've only done that like twice though.

Me too. And this SHOULDN'T be a poll. This should be "post-voting", so Rep or Belts or other guys can actually decide if the vote is actually valid or not before counting it.

Polls allow random people without GFX experience to randomly vote.

Don't vote for a specific piece because you like one member more than the other. We're all on fair and neutral grounds so we'd like you to be honest and vote for the one that looks visually attractive.
The same applies for characters, I know you want to vote for your favorite character but this isn't a popularity contest it is a contest about visual art.
Keep in mind what the theme is if there is one involved. For example the theme might be Christmas yet somebody derails from this and creates something that has nothing to do with Christmas. Sure it might look completely and utterly awesome! But keep in mind what we're looking for, there are themes for a reason.
Be honest! If you want to criticize the work that's on display go ahead because we, the designers, like nothing more than criticism. It really helps us to develop our work!


If the vote goes ahead that more people want it to be post voting then we can test it out on the next SOTW.. I have felt for awhile that unfair voting was going on.

You can edit the polls, but can you track people who vote in the polls without actually posting their vote + reason?

For the next SOTW we can try post voting and i'll be the one thats in charge of the polls - my only concern with this is that the competition then becomes a little to serious which might drive people away. I know that this is a fun event and I never want it to become too strict but I also know that artwork should be appreciated - not because their favorite character is in it but rather because the whole piece is attractive.

Well Suppi the whole reason of these contests was to challenge GFX artists, bring the graphics section to life but most of all have fun. So I really don't hold anything against your entries because if I did I wouldn't be including them x3

I think its just a shame that sometimes the fun ball has to be rolled away and I do understand where other artists are coming from to. I mean everybody puts an honest amount of time into their work and then to have people that just vote for the sake of voting or because they like a certain character better is like a slap in the face. DDx

For a three way tie, I'll open it up to staff members, they get the final votes (because like I said, I can edit the votes xD) I just noticed how there is a three way tie. Hodamn. =o

It probably won't take away the fun, hey, it SHOULDN'T stop Suppi from posting his Touhou works if he thinks they look good.

It wouldn't take the fun away from voting as well, since valid reasons include: "I like how he makes the character stick out from the image using ..." and "I like the color coordination of the sig" or something like that.

Invalid ones include: "I'm voting for this one since it's color blue."

Both reasons are kind of odd to be used for winning but...
Both characters are color palette red/black/white with background being Pink with RAINBOWS... There aren't many to say other than it carries a hint of cheerfulness into the picture. It's like it's speaking to you... or something like that would be what really stands out as a comment if we want to srsly go and make people vote with reason.

Rambling aside. Thanks for sticking up to the newbie who can't use photo shop well Icyie :3

Well, more valid reasons would probably be:

"The execution of the effects blend well, they're not over the top, and the flow of the sig is organized. There is also a well defined focal point, etc etc.."

Graphics jargon, but I doubt most people would put in reasons like this one xD
