The Rune Saber problem might be similiar to Zidane's Tempest problem where the second part doesn't connect, making it a host/guest problem since it pretty much only happens to guests. I figure a WoL main like RDF isn't likely to fail RS enough to want to complain about it, the fact that he failed RS as many times as hes making it out to be (did he ever state how many Rune Sabers he missed? If its only 1 then.. well, screw that) makes it kind of unlikely that it was a player mistake.

Well, I have to agree that Host has a low level advantage. I'm actually surprised that Wedge hasn't noticed this since he plays Jecht as well but comboing with him as guest can be a pain. (Or maybe he's like me and doesn't care - simply accepts it as part of the game)

When you land a combo and input it correctly (full circle appears) but all of a sudden the enemy is is out of the hit range? Honestly, I only ever see this happening against computers if there is an object/obstruction that snags them and saves them. Against a human that is host, I could be trying stream to Jecht Blade and in the middle of the second/third/as the hp attack starts, my opponent will get "adjusted" outside of the hit box despite being in unobstructed free space.

I've also noticed that if I'm guest, sometimes my replays don't save correctly (as in when I go to watch the replay, things happen differently than when I fought the match and at the end of the input data, both players are still alive and just stand there). This further reinforces my belief as to whats happening as I'll mention in a moment.

My take on what is causing this? Well, I'm assuming that as the host takes in the input data and positioning/state data from the guest and any discrepancies get fudged more in the hosts benefit. Since traditionally, the host is responsible for not only sending and receiving data, they're also responsible for taking care of the clean up in most cases, this seems viable. Because the host has this role, naturally, their data is used as a basis and even though dissidias online system is pretty good for the most part - I find that in situations where the lag is sporadic and data discrepancies are more common, you'll run into moves missing when they shouldn't etc.

I'm pretty confident that this is whats happening since this is how a great many projects I've had the pleasure to work on tried to handle the online interface. While I'm not the best networking programmer (heck, pretty sub par actually), I did need to know/understand how things were interfacing with each other to complete my work. Remember - games tend to be the exception to the rules. Game developers take a LOT of shortcuts and make some pretty ridiculous sacrifices sometimes. It doesn't help that while Sqenix is a huge developer, they're inexperienced with fighters and online interfacing for those games. As well, as of late, their team dynamics apparently have been shifting more towards business *coughbudgetcough* models (meaning their deadlines are their deadlines - minimal to no exceptions) instead of the "labor of love" model we seen a lot of developers follow in the late 80s and 90s.

Well, I've rambled on enough. This IS just a guess since I obviously didn't work on the project/have inside info on it but I've seen other games do it this way and in my frame of reference, it's most likely the cause.

Also, I'd like to say - after reading these posts about host/guest, I did a bunch of testing with it and found that DC combos also fall prey to this problem (I'm sure there are other things, too). Heck, Zidanes Meo Twister link was one of the first things we noticed. As host, I don't think I've seen it miss, but if Zidane is guest and things are a little sporadic, the host can sometimes get away from it. My point? I'm going to guess that this affects more characters than it doesn't.

I, personally, don't care. I'll play guest, I'll play host... if I were to demand host every time, I'd only be forcing that disadvantage on my opponents. More importantly, if this IS the case, it isn't something we can change about the game, so I might as well get used to both sides of things. Take it all for what you will - maybe I'm right, maybe I'm not... but it seems pretty reasonable to me =/

I will now assume the role of host in every online match from now on. You wanna be host to?! We fight 2 battles (4 for overtime).

First battle you be host. Second I will be host. Winner of the 2 becomes host for the online match. If it needs overtime so be it!

Actually instead of fighting it out for who gets host. Should such arguments come about I think a system needs to be implemented WITH the counter pick rules in place. If both want to be host then they should each host one game. If a third game is necessary then a system needs to be worked out on who gets to host that third game.

Let's face it. If 90% of the board (including myself) were WoL mains and what RDF is saying is true, I would be "royally" pissed if I lost due to host/guest issues. You guys don't take issues like this strongly simply because your mains remain unaffected. I will have to do tests with ultimecia to see how far it even affects her now.

I cannot stress how lag can make a huge difference in Fighting games. Well dissidia to a small degree but much larger with some characters (ala Jechtie mano). I won't argue the discrepancies with this host/guest issue but if its there might as well just go with it.

Lyco always makes sure that she is host. It is for sure a host problem

I'm prtety sure with the Host/Guest problem it also affects Terra's Ultima. I've done a few Terra dittoes in my time, but I remember facing two different people.

Firstly my Friend: He was guest. All my Ultimas hit him, I managed to get out of his.
Secondly VaanSkyLord: I saw one of his videos againest me from eons ago. He landed every Ultima againest me, and all my Ultimas ended up missing, despite the fact I was going to win a few times.

Againest WoL and Sephiroth: I notice it with these two since these are the two characters I played againest alot more. But when I used CoD againest them, there are times where I can Wrath out of their BnB Comboes. I don't know if that's a Host/Guest issue, but who knows. It'd be interesting to test. Note that it doesn't ALWAYS work.

Infact here's an example of showing both me being able to Wrath out of some of Benji's comboes and how Rune Sabre misses at times. (The first Wrath out of the combo was a mistime on Benji's part, which is why I didn't successfully hit him.)

In this video I also DON'T use Auto-Recovery, which makes it easier to get out of Rune Sabre.

I want to say however that the match between Benji and I was quite laggy. So he could easily mistime it.

I would like to say for a moment also that alot of this can happen also if you have Auto-Recovery equipped and your opponent is just a little off. I'll use my CoD Air 1 -> Air 2 as a main example here. It won't work unless I time it PERFECTLY againest Auto-Recovery. And most of the time I will fail at that: Even if I'm host.

I explain to Benji that he miss all these times due to host/guest issue. Afterward he learn that if he use WoL, he has to host in order to prevent his attacks miss.

Since the Host/Guest issue affects matches, then the player who uses a character affected by Host/Guest issue should be the Host if the other player isn't using a character affected by H/G.

And I was getting annoyed at the fact that people are actually arguing such a matter, although now I am starting to get persuaded since more people have confessed to it being a host/guest issue. If it turns out to be true then I am worried about how disuputes will be settled in future tournaments about who will be host and who will be guest, and even moreso because the issue is not limited to one character. Maybe some tests need to be done.

No robo, she DID break a rule so we are having a rematch today. I asked some of the mods in IRC the other day and they said to have a rematch. She also agreed to have a rematch so it will happen after 4:30 PM central time today

How about the difference between a win and a lose? When your opponent is able to escape sequences, expect some CA to come your way. Against Zidane, CA could potentially mean a break since he doesn't hold brave well.

This is also the case with just about any other character as well when this happens. Opponent escapes combo and is usually given the chance to get CA to activate.

Not only did you state that you were right and the TOs were wrong and that was it, you went even further as to force your opponent to comply to your coward wish to do a rematch as fast as possible in order to have a chance to revert the current decision in your favor.

Spyder only pointed out the rules stated and valid to everybody else, which should be obvious, while maintaining politeness and firmness in sending said message to you. If the fact that the TOs decide what happens under the spectrum of the tournament feels disrespectful to you in any way, no problem. You are eliminated anyway, until the TOs say otherwise.

If I'm understanding that right, Armoxus was Terra, and did a meltdown. Lyco EX Guarded the meltdown, and it reflected back and hit Armoxus? Then Lyco did an Aerial Circle in his recovery lag?

Isn't that sorta just like blocking any magic attack and having it reflected back? Would it be the same if Squall RD's through Terra's Meltdown and it reflects and hits her back?

Annnnddddd - Good show Wedge! It's sad to see the last Jecht fall, but you took him really far! I hope you're walking away from this one happy and content with your accomplishments - it's well deserved!

Mhm thats right. I enter to get as far as possible with the character I feel passionate about. In my match with Sd1ad, I know EXACTLY what things I need to improve on to make game with Jecht more efficient. My mistakes were my failure to mindgame, punish/predict techs, and flinch game play. Its all about learning. And I'm MORE than happy with making Top 10.

Oh by the way look at the top 10-12 and their mains/used characters and see what you spot:

I'm confident Hallaboloo will take that 10 spot so that essentially leaves us with Terras, Squalls, Zidanes, Gabranths, and WoLs. Kinda crazy how the meta is developing?

I'd actually would like to commend a few players:
Meoark and Veysey: Though this was your guys first tournament, you both did remarkably well, especially considering who we all main. For Jecht more so than any other character, match up knowledge is key. I really think next time around both of you will have learned from your experiences and hopefully all 3 of us can show what Jecht can do in the hands of the right players.

Pokefan: You've been kinda dubbed the "upset" of the tournament and with good reason. Lots of people are rooting for you because you are different from the usual top 4 of Dave, K`gen, Kraid, ect... So I tip my hat to you sir.

Rei-N: You've been a very fair and strict TO and this tournament in all aspects has probably been the best one, IMO, to date. The ruleset is great, not perfect, but spectacular nonetheless. I hope that future tournaments can follow KAoS as an example for organization and such.

Dave880: I commend you for upsetting tournaments 4 times running lol. But in all honestly you've been an amazing TO and participant in KAoS. Great job.

RDF2050: You've been an amazing asset to the TO's by being extremely vigilant on getting the replays uploaded and keeping the email organized for the workload ahead.

EVA and BEYNd: I have to give you guys respect for doing the same thing us Jecht mains are doing. EVA has shown how much of a beast he is in KAoS and I know that come the next tournament he will be smarter and more prepared for his match ups and he will always be a top contender for tournaments. BEYNd for getting 13th place with a fresh new main (previous maining Jecht + Garland) and also coming back from a 3+ month hiatus as well. Its good to have you back and kicking ass.

IMO KAoS has been a great a experience and I just can't wait to see the final matches. GO GO GO!

Yeah, it's cool if you've been consistently playing Terra since the beginning, I imagine, but if you picked her up just to win for this tournament, it is kind of a cop-out. From what I've seen, both on GameFAQs and here, though, PokeFan's been rocking Terra forever. Still, though, congrats! Don't get comfortable yet, though. You still have the Grand Finales to come. XD

Also, yes, Suppi, I want to see some more people kicking ass with Shantotto out there, haha.

Because it's official. I assume they practice together all the time, share secrets, just in general help each other develop. They end up getting to have a match where both parties put it all out on the table and really push each other to the max.

I couldn't think of anyone better to face in a tourney than a good friend and/or teammate. They know what I'm capable of and I get to try my best to see if I can still manage to exceed their expectations - and if they're going into the match with a similar mentality ... well, that'd be one hell of a match!

I can't speak for Spyder or K'Gen but that's my take on it anyways.

In fact the reason I join tournaments is to go up against my friends and team mates. Nothing makes the tournament more worthwhile.

Just imagine the thrill. Both players know each others tricks, playstyles, and habits by heart. Both know how to take advantage of that. Both are equally matched, and both give there all in one epic duel. It doesn't get better than this. Expect a battle of "epic proportions," cause we're going all out.

Actually i think Terra did very well this tourny, compared to the others that is. We had you and SD1AD tearing up the competition. There did seem to be a suprising amount of Terra players though, makes me feel less special >_>

My only regret is that we couldn't save the best fight out of all three. It was 40 minutes and it was none-stop action. I was sweating bullets.

But to give you guys a small description, we both had around 4k hp and we both had 4k brave. We were fighting over the killing amount. lol. Toughest match, yet.

Not surprising, Squall dittos are generally long matches, add the 2 best Squall players to that and you get 40+ mins =P.

Not surprising, Squall dittos are generally long matches, add the 2 best Squall players to that and you get 40+ mins =P.

Anyways on a more important note: I may not be able to have my match with RDF now. My PS3 controller completely broke meaning I have no way of moving around the XMB menu and going into Ad-Hoc party. What sucks more is I may not be able to get a new PS3 controller for some time.

That's not to say I didn't give my all. They were all tough matches and K´Gen wasn't the only one who was frustrated. It was the most fun I had in a long time. The matches were simply terrific.

If I have to remember KAoS for one thing, it´ll be because of this match.
Fighting a friend, someone who knows you back-to-back and vice-versa, with nothing but the sheer will to overcome yourself and knowing that somehow you´ll still find yourself surprised and amazed almost every second...I can´t even begin to describe. I can only hope you guys feel the same way somehow.

K`Genesis advances to the next round. RDF2050 has been eliminated from the tournament.

I came back from said lunch and you guys were still at it.. at which point I lay down and nearly fell asleep. That match was so darn long.. Don't worry K'Gen, I scolded Dave for being a prick in that match. D:<
