Funny.
You act like a blind fanboy.
It almost seems as if you do nothing but eat sleep and shit final fantasy 7.
I wouldn't be surprised if i heard you jerking off to the thoughts of sephiroth cloud tifa or aeris.
Way to be biased.
Heck, even ff9 fans are not as biased as you ff7 fanboy fanatics
The problem was somewhere between me ragging on VI & saying that the VII characters generally had better development. Meanwhile, his totally non-biased assessment was...that the VI characters were more developed than the VII characters. Also, this started because he PMed me out of the blue to talk about how FFVII, which was "lackbuster in much departments," could be "greatly improved by a remake."
What started as that turned into something awesome.

Well there ARE a LOT of FFVII "fanboys" out there...
I don't make accusations like that though, unless they try to pick an argument with me that sounds similar to: "stfu nub ff7 ftw the others suk".
However, I do get sort of hated on b/c I am one of those people that claim "Chrono Trigger is the best RPG ever made". Sorry, but it's true =]

Of course, I think a lot of people get that reaction. It was kind of stupid when someone who was a huge fan of Final Fantasy IX (don't get me wrong, I like Final Fantasy IX just as much as the next person) said that Final Fantasy VII was stupid because the main antagonist was a pansy fairy. And I'm just like, "This coming from a fan of Final Fantasy IX? Look at the main antagonist for that game."
It was just a stupid thing to say on their part.

I don't participate in fanboy arguments. I laugh at both parties concerning that particular argument.
I mean, yeah it's okay to have a discussion about which your favorite game is, but when you start putting down the other's opinion and try to shove your own down their throat, that's taking it too far. My favorite Final Fantasy game is IX, but I don't go forcing that on people and putting down their opinion that they have the right to have.
Live and let live.

This whole post right here is the reason I get along with people better on the Internet than I do in real life. People in the real world when you're talking to them face to face are just stupid with the dumb things that they say. They're just running at the mouth with asinine crap, like verbal diarrhea.

Comprehension of irony & fanboyism may very well be mutually exclusive.
The REAL shame is that the insults towards FFVII are really rather dull. You may laugh at the "overcompensation" line a few times, but it gets old. I mean, there are funnier things in this series than Cloud's dick.
Like Tidus being Meg Ryan. Or Setzer coming across as a serial rapist.
They're just running at the mouth with asinine crap, like verbal diarrhea.
I appreciate this mental image. Thank you very much.

I'm on your boat, Chrono Trigger was the best RPG ever made. But I don't shove that down people's throats.
Also, I do like VII, but unfortunately it is horribly overrated. I mean, look at how many spinoffs it has received, all just to expand the story. I understand that the world off FFVII is huge and complicated and has a lot to it and the spinoffs are necessary to completely fulfill ones understanding of the story. But in reality it's a marketing ploy to steal more of the fan's money. And I will admit, I'm a sucker for VII's spinoffs. I have owned and played almost all of them. VII was great, I would not call it the best, but it had a solid story for the time period it was set in within the universe, and the characters stuck with me. They were all super memorable. Square did a wonderful job with them and there were multiple quests and sidequests with which they expanded upon each character's history or otherwise.
Please note this is not me shoving my ideas down anyone's throats like the wiseguy whose argument was not even intellectual at the very least from what I can tell.
I would, however, like to argue for IX because it is my favorite, but again not the best. But since this is NOT the FFIX board I will keep that argument out.
In my honest opinion there may never truly be a "best" Final Fantasy. They are all great in their own respects, and that is the belief I stick to.
All in all though, I have never gotten that reaction from someone. I'm very sorry that these types of people harass you, or us, or all of us. It is frustrating, indeed.

Although there isn't a whole Hell of a lot I can say about it, having not played it, I'd kinda like to hear your argument for IX. Maybe you could PM me or something?
I don't even remember how this started. But, hey, more excerpts!
Now you are just being biased.
FF6 characters do have a personality.
For one locke is adventerous.
Cyan is a brave honorable humble samurai.
Terra is trying to find the meaning for her existance, she has a way more serious overtone.
And besides, you could pretty much say the same about any game.
Heck,i could say that cloud strife has the personality of a whiny emo.
You could also say that barret is the stereotypical black man who gets angry.
See what i just did?
Now lets be fair shall we?
I'm not going to apply these because i don't want to be unfair.
Everybody thinks their game is the best and puts down the other
ff9 fans put down ff6 ff7 and ff8 and say theirs is the best
Some ff9 fans love ff7
FF8 fans put down ff7 and say theirs is the best.
FF6 has more comical relief and ff7 is more serious.
They both have their strong points and weak points.
FF6 has better script.
FF7 has a more complicated story that takes more playthroughs and reading more books to understand.
This was after I made some cracks & some serious arguments. An example of a crack was saying that Locke came across as a disturbed necrophile. An example of a serious statement was that Edgar can generally be summed up as the "goodly king" with a flirtatious streak.
I would like to note that an archetype is worlds apart from a stereotype. "Black guy" & "emo" are meaningless terms. Hell, he used archetypes in his defense. He summed up Cyan just about as simply with "brave & honorable samurai," but if I had done the same thing with a negative inflection (which I wouldn't, 'cause I like Cyan, but I digress) he'd have bitched about it.
Additionally, this is a lot of argument from opinion. It runs the gambit from "unbiased assessments" like the "better script" thing to wholly irrelevant, like "Relm is good with magic."
Relm:
I'm not into cutesy little girl characters.
Sure she is a good caster like terra, but i never cared for her at all.
although the scene where she meets shadow's dog in the game, its pretty entertaining how this aggressive dog seems to like her.
Celes:she is important to the story, but she is not my favorite character either.
1:gau
Gau was thrown out into the veldt by his father for being born a freak as if he was trash
Gau later confronts his father and finds him and tries to get his father to accept him,but he is rejected.
He accepts it and moves on since he had no father and now knows his father is insane and has the support of his friends
Gau is a very good character and also can be quite funny at times.
His techniques at moments can leave a little left to be desired, especially in the world of ruin.
These are some examples of him trying to argue that the characters are well-developed. I have a number of problems with these. First of all, see what he did with Gau? Commenting on abilities? That has nothing to do with development. And he did it for several of them.
Second, he misses the entire point of development. Important to the story=/=development. And "hur hur Interceptor likes Relm" was foreshadowing her background story. >.>
As well, he had said that Vincent was underdeveloped & the cast of VI, as a whole, was more developed than the cast of VII. It wasn't particularly hard to knock this out. That list of Gau's comes from like one scene. All I had to do was note every important storyline role that Vincent had served & I had a larger list than most of his.
Now, I'm not saying he's right or wrong, but if your entire argument rides on the premise that Vincent just kinda stands around doing nothing, it's not going to be difficult to knock down.
This was summarily ignored. I suppose I should have expected it, though, since it had been explained to him countless times that "Jenova is to Sephiroth as gun is to shooter" & he was STILL arguing that "Sephiroth is a bad villain because he doesn't do anything, Jenova does."

Certainly, I will PM you about that soon. And hopefully convince you to play it, too. =P
Whoever this guy is, I don't think he trained very well in grammar, literacy, and the like. He completely misses what makes a character a character. His summations are simple, in fact I believe Cloud could be summed up in the same words he used for Terra. Yuffie can be described similarly to Locke.
I just totally lost the rest of what I was going to say...

Heh. Happens to me all of the time.
He's no wordsmith, I'll tell ya that. Comprehension of tone is another one of his problems. I mean, it shouldn't be too hard when I say, "Setzer's a rapist," I don't mean that Square actually made him a rapist.
It'd be kind of like me flipping out about the "Sephiroth is overcompensating" thing. Although I sometimes do harp on people for the Oedipus Complex thing, but that's mostly because Square confuses me into rambling. Seriously, what ARE they trying to get across with the "Jenova is my mother" thing?
I don't have an aversion to playing IX, it's just a matter of finding some way to play it.

Well that generally happens when you leave to eat dinner in the middle of writing.
If Sephiroth is compensating, then so's Cloud =P.
I don't really know what they're getting at with it. I think Sephiroth is just obsessed because he knows he can use JENOVA to wipe all life off the earth, which is partly true. But there's also another side, though I doubt it if we'll ever see it.
I figured you didn't have an aversion to it. You could probably download it off the PSN if you have a ps3 and are willing to spend a few dollars, otherwise find a friend or find a copy on the internet. It really is good; easily replaced VII as my favorite. The only reason my username is what it is is simply because I have used this one for a very long time and it's easy to remember.
