What is your opinion on the voice acting for Sephiroth on the first Kingdom Hearts, I think it's freakin' horrible, Lance Bass as Sephi = FAIL! xD

i guess its bad, George Newborn fit sephiroth better

I think that a lot of the reaction is simply because it's Lance Bass. He doesn't even say enough to draw a fair comparison. Not even one complete sentence. I think that he & George are about the same when it comes to voicing Sephiroth: Mediocre.

I can't say I remember what it sounds like, but I do remember I thought it to be adequate.

It doesn't really sound like Sephiroth, just sounds like more of a Timid Version of him...

I was okay with it. If anything, Lance Bass portrayed a much younger Sephiroth. Oh the good ol' days :D

I liked it, but he didn't really say enough for me to form much of an opinion on it.

He's gay.
No, really. Look it up.
Not that I'm anti-LGBT or w/e it's called...Err...Back on-topic!
I think they only used Lance because they went out on a fragile limb with the premise of KH, and no major VA's(like Steve Blum, Doug Erholtz) wanted any connection with a potential Titanic-tier fail (The actual ship, not the movie. The movie was Chuck Norris-Tier), so they made do with VA's who could only gain from the game's profit.
Lance Bass was picked because he was more or less despeate for cash post N*SYNC, and therefore didn't really have much potential backlash if KH1 tanked.
David Boreanaz(Squall/Leon) was still milking the Buffy cash cow (maybe even the Angel on, too) and was relatively immune to backlash, seeing as how he was a TV/Movie actor first-off (read, if the game tanked, he could just say, "Hey, I'm a live-action actor, don't blame me").
Wow, that was certainly more in-depth than I planned.

Lance was trying to fund his trip to space :P Which they wouldn't let him go on >.<
I still think he did a good job, and often times I kinda liked Bass' rendition of Sephiroth over Newbern's, since a lot of Newbern's work makes him sound incredibly dull sometimes. It's not like Sephiroth lacked emotions. Don't get me wrong, Newbern does a great job, and nails it perfectly, but Bass added...I guess a bit more life to the role.
And I was sad when David Boreanaz didn't reprise his role, he did a great job, and I love the guy as an actor.

The reason I often give Lance the benefit of the doubt is because, as you noted, Newborn has that monotone. Now, that's not necessarily his fault. They wanted Sephiroth to do that to make the point that he wasn't affected by the fight.
But in the original game, Sephiroth made highly energetic speeches. He ground his sword into the ground, he raised his arms in the air, he made slashing motions...frankly, I just find it hard to believe that he didn't have a more bombastic voice if he did all of that.
While I think that Hagane's analysis made a lot of sense, I think that that the VAs for characters like, say, Aerith didn't really do a bad job & most of the reaction was Fan Dumb. Which is odd, considering they don't have a problem with who voices Roxas.
Although, perhaps Lance didn't make Sephiroth sound as menacing as he should. Again, since he only did in-battle phrases, it's hard to say.

Hey, there was some emotion in Crisis Core!
Back on topic, Bass did a... different... Sephiroth. Not bad, but not really him.

I dunno. Jesse McCartney fit the 'whiny emo plot device' bill pretty well, imo. Wait, refresh my memory...
Did Mandy Moore do Aeris' voice in KH 1 and 2?

Really Hagane, you're gonna throw out the emo card on Roxas? Come ooooon, man.
You'd be pretty pensive, too, if you found out your entire existence was essentially a sham :P Seriously the term "Emo" gets thrown around a lot, and the meaning is entirely skewed. The negative term would essentially be applied to people bitching how life is hard for no reason. It doesn't apply to Roxas, or Cloud, or Squall, or pretty much anyone else who's ever had a bad day.
Anyway, I like Jesse McCartney as Roxas, I almost wanna say it's nice when they get celebrity voices sometimes, because then we're not hearing the same ten voices from other games and anime (Nolan North, Steve Blum - Ah'm lookin' at you two!) He fits the perfect bill of random normal kid, who turns out to be anything but normal. At least he's not singing :D
And nope, Mandy Moore was only for KH I, then Mena Suvari for Advent Children and KH II (shudder), and then...someone for Crisis Core and beyond, can't remember her name. But, Mandy Moore actually did a good job, I thought. Mena Suvari...waaay to wispy on her rendition of Aerith.

Ordinarily, I'd agree, but Roxas kinda WAS emo.

Honestly, i think choosing lance bass says a lot about what square thinks of the character.

I think Lemonade is trying to imply that Square thinks Sephiroth is gay. Or...a good singer.
Interesting thought just popped into my head; the orchestra and chorus performing "One-Winged Angel" is a bunch of Sephiroth clones just hanging back somewhere in the battlefield. That's what Reunion really was, getting the band back together!

I have expressed the opinion that he is no better or worse than the guy they have now. So, I guess that means I like him, but I'm not creaming my pants over what an awesome choice they made.

Nah he sounded cool. Kinda young for Sephiroth tho still if there ever was a young Sephiroth story he should the voice.
If I had too pick my favorite thing about KH its the combat.

*raises hand* I liked him, too, Nexus n.n
And I'd have to agree, it was a lot more fun fighting Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts than it seems to be in Dissidia. Maybe it's the Reaction Commands.

I actually prefer Lance Bass to George Newbern. Newbern was fantastic as Nooj (FFX-2) but as Sephiroth, he's made him into a demented gentleman. Lance Bass sounded more young and reckless instead of distinguished and noble.

I didn't really like Bass as Sephie-Boy, because he didn't sound...evil, enough. Then again...KH1 Sephie-Boy never had a full script, did he?

Nobody here realizes what makes Sephiroth Sephtastic. He has this feeling of omnipotence and the feeling that he is always holding back. This is furthered by Sephiroth's calm, collected tone that he always maintains. You'll notice that he never gets winded or tired. When you add all this emotion to him it takes away from his god-like feel. That's why Newbern will always work better than Gay-boy Bass.

Well, that's one way of seeing it.
The other way of seeing it is that he's a dead character with no personality or feeling.

Yeah, that's how I see it too.
Besides, if he was omnipotent he wouldn't have lost to Cloud 3 times. He needs a whiny annoying voice that craves for attention, that would suit his personality better (seeing as all he does is get Cloud's attention and then get defeated). DDFF Kuja's VA would have worked better.
