Is anyone as hyped about this game as i am?
Just reading about the classes available gets me hyped, even though, from what I see so far, the classes seem fairly generic. Still though, I can't wait to see how the game works with all these classes working together.
That being said, what class do you guys look forward to playing the most? (this poll is comprised of the Disciples of War and Disciples of Magic as listed on the official website)
Personally I plan on playing the Lancer as it seems to be the most unique to FFXIV in the lineup of available classes. And the mechanics explained on the website sound very interesting.

I always thought Samurai in XI was cool.
Is there any word on when the first expansion will be released?
[EDIT]
WOW no love for this thread eh? lol. I guess it's too soon to be thinking about FFXIV for most people...

It's the way of the future, my friend =] More and more companies want the money Blizzard is getting from WoW.

No company is going to get the kind of money Blizzard is getting from WoW. Not to mention most gamers detest the MMO genre because a good number of them are just stupid WoW clones.

Didn't say they're going to achieve the same success, I just said, because they see how much money WoW makes (can you imagine getting 10 million people to commit to at least $15 a month?), they want to TRY to get in on the action.
And a handful of MMOs coming out soon may have a shot of achieving relative success (FFXIV, The Old Republic, maybe DC Universe...), depending on how well they're made and received.
I also contest your statement of "most gamers" detesting MMOs. There are definitely people that hate on MMOs, but I'd say the majority of gamers love MMOs (unless you meant MMORPGs). The success of Halo 3 and CoD:MW2 comes to mind. People want to play online, and in a big community.

MMO storylines seem weaker to me IMO.
Not to mention I hate having a REQUIRED 2+ player cooperation to beat the game.
Never played FF11 but I plan to, want to try it out for myself.
Edit: Another thing about MMO's I hate paying a ridiculous amount of cash(10+ USD) each month just to play it. I'd rather have SE stick with Console games where they are just a One-time purchase.

Back on topic: Thaumaturge
I would've preferred "Alchemist" but we'll see.

Realistically: Thaumaturge (if I do get the game)
Hopefully (very, very hopefully): Chef
What I want: Puglist
What I'll probably end up doing anyway: Gladiator

I think that's Conjurer.
As far as the crafting jobs... I think I'll try Botanist lol. Or Miner, since I remember Miner in FFXI was the easiest to get money early on.
