Favourite Final Fantasy Ending

We're obviously all big fans of the series, but which of the games had the best ending in your opinion. NOTE this only concerns the main series games and not the side games/ side movie. (Advent Children, X.2 etc)


For me it was a hard choice between the ending of VII, IX, X and XIII. However after much thought I went with X's ending. It was mainly because Tidus spends half of the game trying to find a way to defeat Sin without the cost of Yuna's life and in the process he ends up sacrificing his own life in a sense. It's always heartbreaking when I see the moment where Yuna trys to stop him from going. Then of course her speech at the end about never forgetting. It was a perfect ending for me.

Not to say the other endings where bad IX had the great moment where Zidane and Garnet where reunited, XIII saw the end of Lightning, Snow, Hope and Sazhs torments with the sacrfice of Vanille and Fangs lifes. And VII, well it was the first of the Final Fantasy games I played and beaten so it stays in my mind firm and strong.

It's a very hard choice, because all endings are awesome, but to me, FFVI has the most original ending out of all Final Fantasy, the part with the different characters was genious. Not to mention the music, which is, I think, the best music that Uematsu has ever made.

I think VIII. When Squall was begining to forget Rino and then many fuzzy images coming out of his head, all of them erasing Rinoa from his head, and then a picture of her dying in the space and Squall shed a tear, i kinda felt sad for Squall there, it was like Squall's fear to be alone again had manifested in those images kinda forcing to not forget her or maybe it was Ultimecia's last treachery. Then i was like "Squall died or what?" and maaaany FMV's seeing the main characters goofing around (LOL Zell finally got to eat hot dogs) aaand the suspense finished and the main characters have for the first time a sweet kiss :3 and Balamb Garden flies to infinity and beyond! (The only thing that really made me say "WTF!?!?" was Seifer fishing and laughin like an idiot, he was high?)

VII is also a good ending, the suspense of "Oh shit, what it will become of the planet!?" and very dramatic music, simply awesome! ... im kinda troubled for which i'll vote, mmmm for a lil bit i'll vote for VIII.

Hard choice between FFVI, FFVIII and FFIX. I went with FFIX because it is quite epic.

I'm gonna go with XIII, it felt surreal and fantastical, unlike some of the other endings. It was also really beautiful, and nice to see the characters freeeee.

To me, XII and VI were rather let down endings. XII was just "back to normal life ... yay" and VI didn't even show anything important except for them leaving the tower. III (DS at least) was alright, but fairly standard, which is pretty much what you expect, really.

The battle system was amazing, the story was totally original, there was an epic rivalry between the antagonist and protagonist, the materia system was THE best way to operate a battle of all the games, badass antagonist, badass protagonist, badass protagonist-companions, so many extra things you can do, awesome boss battles, awesome rewards for everything, major replay value... all this was great in FFVII. But the ending... it felt like it was foreshadowed throughout half the game. Like I wasn't surprised at all when it occured. In my opinion, at the most, the ending was mediocre. Not that it was a bad ending, there were just endings from other Final Fantasies that I felt were better.

While VIII is my favourite for no real reason, at least nothing I can articulate, VI is clearly the cleverest and the most well done. It's also the least happy.

I just have to say that out of anything, Final Fantasy games are mostly about the journey rather than the ending. I haven't found many of the endings all that spectacular like in other games. In other games (read: usually not RPGs) the ending is the ultimate goal, it's the culmination of all your hard work. But with a Final Fantasy, it's about all of the stuff I uncover as I play, rather than the ending itself. The ending sort of just raps up everything.

But, as far as those go, even though it's not one of my favorites, I voted for X's. It's one of the most emotional, because it dealt with some rather heavy stuff that couldn't be dealt with until the ending.

I like X's ending. Also XII. But I went with X because of how powerful it was when I first watched it. The ending credit song was good too.

I'd go with IX myself since I enjoyed how the entire game was a throwback to all the old FF games (also I'm pretty sure I had soda coming out of my nose when I read Marcus's line in the play). FFX is a very close second, it's probably my favorite game of the post-SNES age.
