This may make or break my chances of going online, here, so fingers crossed...
Does the PS3 need to be plugged into the router itself to run Ad-Hoc party, or can it be hooked up to a computer with online access via ethernet cable? See, my router isn't just in a different room, but on a different floor than where I could play. Therein lies my problem...

:( adhoc requires direct connection to the router (if memory serves me right for trying to set it up)

Yes. unfortunately, the PS3 has to be connected to the router with an ethernet cable, because it can't catch your PSP's wireless signal while it's trying to create a mock siganl over the internet, or something like that.
I'm supposing you live in some dorms? I don't suppose there is any compromise to getting it connected, is there?

No, I live in a house, but the router's in the computer room downstairs, while the room with my games, and this computer, is on the upper floor. I don't understand, though; the PS3 would still be wired, just connected to the computer...

God dammit, Square, why couldn't you give this damn game straight-up online...?!

Yeah I had to put my PS3 downstairs too >.>
I had this problem too. My router is upstairs, and my PS3 is downstairs.
Fortunately, I had a 50 foot ethernet cable. :>
