View Full Version : Using assists to cause wall rush HP damage

Well, an interesting happened today while I was playing around with Feral Chaos. I was fighting Chaos and was spamming his ground wave HP attack and WoL's ground assist. This HP attack usually doesn't cause wall rush, but it just so happened that immediately after the wave hit Chaos, WoL also smashed him to the "wall" [lol?] of Edge of Madness. And, strangely enough, it did wall rush damage instead of BRV and the "+xxxx" appeared below the actual HP damage done.
I tried to emulate the conditions against and with other characters so I could record a video, but I'm having no luck so far. The timing seems to be pretty strict and the assists showing up a certain distance from the opponent's EXACT position at the time they were summoned doesn't help things. Seems very hard to do on purpose to be actually practical, IMO.

It also happened to me once using Tidus with Jecht as an assist. While the manly Jecht was in the middle of performing Jecht Stream, I used Energy Rain on my opponent and then right after the explosion ("and another!" xD), his old man had smashed the foe onto the ground. Hence that wall rush HP damage appeared. Since then I can't do it. lol
Maybe the game thinks that the HP attack has caused wall rush itself.

Lol. It "sorta" happened to me except it wasn't with Assist.
I was fighting Feral Chaos as Vaan. I used Windburst and Inferno afterward. Feral Chaos got hit by the Windburst and then my Inferno. Inferno didn't count as a separate HP attack but Feral Chaos did get wall rushed and he got HP wall rush damage from my Windburst.

Via Dolorosa can cause HP Wall Rush at times. All of Feral's attacks can Wall rush basically. (It happens mostly when you've wall rushed them, use an Assist to lock them on the wall then use Via Dolorosa.)

This is eerily similar to something I posted in Lightning's discussion yesterday or so...
So, using Jecht as an Assist while I was attempting to just fight against high level enemies for their nice shiny equipment, and something happened during his land Assist-B that was quite surprising...

...I managed to time Crushing Blow juuuuuuuuuust right so that I hit at the same time as Jecht. The way his Jecht Rush works as an Assist-B has him slamming them upward into a ceiling for additional WR. Since the timing was just right, my HP hit was happening while he threw them into the ceiling, and it actually counted as a Wall Rush for both his Bravery hit and my HP hit. I was rather surprised, and looks like there's something to be had for a perfectly timed Assist Chain.
The problem is, I'm not sure how applicable it can be to every character, because the combination of moves have to work together, like how Crushing Blow pops the enemy up, and Jecht Rush slams the enemy up, which allowed for this "Jecht Crush," which is essentially Jecht putting more force on the direction the enemy was already being moved.

Really? I didn't know. I was away from EoM's invisible "walls", though when it happened.
