Hey, it had to be done. Lemme know what you think, and maybe I'll make more chapters somewhere down the line. I'm doing this based off the animated ending in the DS version of Chrono Trigger. Y'know, the one where...

Crono and Marle get married

Chalk up any discrepancies in the plot of the games to me not giving a fuck. Also, fanfic equals Crono talking. Deal with it.

Chapter 1: - "Twisted Beginnings"

It was a sleepy morning. As the youth turned over in his bed, underneath the warm blankets, he was dreaming that same odd dream again. The one with the girl with the red ribbon in her hair...

"Crono? Crono! Are you still asleep at this hour?"

And so the dream ended, and reality resumed. The young man woke up, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, then let out a silent yawn. Getting out of bed, he went downstairs and saw a familiar sight, the same sight he saw for 5 years now. His wife was sitting in the kitchen, wearing her usual getup of a white dress that went down to her knees, with matching high heels. Her strawberry-blonde hair was done in a ponytail, keeping it out of her bright-aquamarine eyes.

"Good morning, dear! Did you sleep well?" she asked. He gave her a look that clearly said "No. I had the dream with the girl and the super-long katana again". She frowned and sighed, "Well, maybe a little coffee will cheer you up."

As she got up, she pulled a letter out of the drawer next to the coffee pot and handed it to him.

"By the way, we got a letter from Lucca. So nice of her to keep in touch, isn't it?" she said.

Crono opened up the letter. It read...

"Dear Crono and Marle

I'm sorry I couldn't make it to your anniversary party, but I've been busy with my research. I'm close to a breakthrough, I can feel it! But that's not why I'm writing. I'm writing because I noticed some strange fluctuations in the time gates. I'm not sure what this means just yet. I promise I'll keep you posted.

Love, Lucca"

Crono put the letter down, and looked at Marle.

"So she just wrote us to tell us, 'Hey, I found a potential cataclysm waiting to happen, but I don't know what's causing it'?" said Crono, sipping his coffee.

"Well, to be forewarned is to be forearmed, remember?" said Marle, also sipping her coffee. "At least this way, we know what's causing it. Not like last time where we had to travel to the future to find out what was wrong."

Crono, finished with his coffee, walked over to the closet and grabbed his trusted katana, tying it to his waist. "I'm going down to the training grounds. Hopefully Glenn will be there to provide a challenge for a change."

"Try not to hurt the soldiers too badly, okay?"

Crono planted a kiss on Marle's forehead and left for his training. The same way as he had for the past five years. It was a repetitive formula, one he wasn't exactly confortable with. He missed the days of his adolescence, traveling around with friends, both old and new, in worlds unknown. Sure, it was to stop an untold ancient horror from annihilating everything he held dear, but he managed to find some fun in it.

The problem wasn't the peace. The problem was the fact that the peace was incessant. No wars, no raiders, not even a riot or two. Then again, the fact that the king and queen were two of the party who saved all that had ever existed, and ever would exist, from said untold ancient horror was enough to quell any hint of uprising.

Secretly, Crono wished he could go back and do it again, if not go and do something grander. The funny thing about wishes is...sometimes they come true.
