Hearing that Rurouni Kenshin is still on the anime radar is nice, but I hope they don't butcher it. I'll reserve judgment until I see a trailer or new information. It's one of my favorite series of all time, so I hope they get it right and correct the tragic/horrible Jinchuu arc adaptation and ending that was the last OVA. Even Nobuhiro Watsuki was upset with it and said that Kenshin deserved a happy ending. The Jinchuu arc was one of the best parts of the series after the Kyoto arc, and it needs to be done justice.

I'm sure it'll be just like DBZ Kai. Just redone episodes of the original series.

Not that I mind. RK was my favorite Toonami show EVAR.

I'm sure it'll be just like DBZ Kai. Just redone episodes of the original series.

Then there's the occasional miracle like Full Metal Alchemist, where they took the series in a whole different direction to make it closer to the manga series. This is what I'm hoping for for Rurouni Kenshin. :D There were so many fillers in the old series that I just stopped watching after the last "official" arc ended.

Well, I'd like to see something happen at the point it ended in the manga. That is...(don't click spoiler if you haven't read all the chapters yet)

Kenshin and Kaoru are married and have a son who looks like a mini-Kenshin, and Yahiko is a swordsman in his own right, and the new possessor of the Sakabatou.

Aevitas

That's actually the problem I had with how the OVA ended.

They did show Kenshin and Kaoru married, Kenji was growing up and training with Hiko, Yahiko inherited the sakabatou, BUT they made Kenshin unnecessarily dramatic. He was dying from TB and lamenting over all the people he killed.... again... when he was way over that during all his ten years of wandering. THEN to add insult to injury, Kaoru and Kenshin have sex with the full knowledge that Kenshin has TB, and Kaoru gets it too, and then they die together. (I think they died together... it's been a while since I saw it)

Oh yes, and during the flashback in the Jinchuu arc, Kenshin beat Enishi on the beach, but then invited Enishi to kill him as atonement. Just as he was about to kill him, Kaoru dives in front of Kenshin and that's how Enishi gives up after seeing an image of his sister. They wrote out his second-hand man entirely, so I guess it's the only way they could figure out how to do it, but it's just really out of character for Kenshin, and it's almost like they didn't pay attention to the show at all, and that they wrote the script as if Kenshin learned nothing from the entire series, when everyone knows that it's not true.

tldr; They better fix it. XD

Loved Rurouni Kenshin, hated Samurai X. I have all of Rurouni Kenshin except for the Shishio Arc, which incidentally, was also my favourite.

Like what the others said, I hope it's the Jinchuu arc.

On another note, there has been some artwork made by Watsuki about the characters' redesign. Not liking it though.

So, is this going to be following the series like FMA Brotherhood, a different series like FMA, or the arc that wasn't in the first anime like Inuyasha: Final Act?

For that matter, WHEN is this happening?

Hmm.. I agree,.. most of the new designs I don't like so much. However, the person in the post mentioned they may not be intended for the new anime series, unless there has been an update on that.

I think he just did that out of boredom.

I don't understand the term "new." The only ones that looked different at all were Sanosuke (the sword is actually a zanbato now) and Shishio (the metal headgear).

Shishio's is the only one that really bothered me. If the original plot is followed, that ruins the whole Big Reveal about his forehead.

Kazama Kenshin
05-31-2011, 08:58 AM
Actually Hiko looks totally different (and terrible imho, gief Spawn cape BACK!!) Kaoru is different, more of a tomboy/swordswoman, Enishi looks baaaad... and what's up with Aoshi wearing glasses???
I only liked Shishio and Saito I think, but I agree with Neo in terms of the metal headband...

Neo Bahamut
05-31-2011, 08:08 PM
I don't know who Hiko is. I have a vague idea who Enishi is, but I never saw that part anyway. Aoshi does have glasses, I didn't notice that at first. I don't see how Kaoru is "tomboy," but now I do think she has a slightly different hairstyle. Also, what's up with Anji's cracked skin?

And I'm sure their clothes have changed, but people change clothes, so. All-in-all, I don't see them as being so bad.

Loving the redesigns except for a few points. Hiko is completely bleh. Aoshi is a little "eh?" with the glasses. Kaoru's hair is eek. Other than that - I think they're mostly good :)

Seijiro Hiko is Kenshins' master He was the real badass of the series and was characterised as a wildcard by watsuki himself... Look him up...
Enishi is Tomoes' brother... Tomoe being Kenshins' first wife

Neo Bahamut
05-31-2011, 11:14 PM
Once you said, "Kenshin's master," I got it. Eh. He was sort of funny, I guess. Wow, he DOES look a lot different. Less gaudy, but he was supposed to be kind of gaudy.

I know the general story behind Enishi & Tomoe, but I never watched it, because I always felt like the Shishio Arc should have been the conclusion. I was debating reading that part of the manga anyway, but then this news came out, & now I'm not so sure.

Tomoe's redesign looks really weird, but I'm not sure how much was changed from the original, having never seen her before.

Kazama Kenshin
06-01-2011, 12:15 AM
Well Tomoe look kinda weird with the new hairstyle, otherwise she is pretty much the same as before...
It is just my opinion but to be honest I consider the manga to be way better than the anime series due to lack of fillers and some awesome battle designs by watsuki. I believe you should read the part of the manga about Enishi and Kenshins' past... I consider it very well written and designed

And Hiko was not funny he was pure awesomeness ;) ...a bit jecht-ish to put it in dissidia terms... much more strict though

Neo Bahamut

What. He had a huge amount of comic relief. Which is what I remember, because I honestly hated the giant.

I know there's a bunch of filler after the Shishio arc that I didn't watch. Not sure how much prior to that is canon. Really, I was big on the Shishio Arc.

Having seen some of the manga in Barnes & Noble, the non-filler parts are fairly faithful to it.

Aevitas
06-01-2011, 01:03 AM
Before the Shishio arc, the Aoshi story and Jineh story were the only huge parts that were canon. Then other minor ones like meeting supporting characters within one episode were for the most part canon, but they took some creative liberties. Everything else (the circus, pirates, can't remember what other horrible fillers there were) was crap.

Btw, Enishi looked like this in the manga:
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/4439/308375-149360-enishi.jpg

He looks completely different in the redesign and I just don't like it. @_@ His original outfit at least had some nuances of Chinese attire, which was where he was before the Jinchuu arc. (Plus his clip-on glasses were cool)

EDIT: Upon closer inspection, I don't even think that redesign is Enishi. It might be the puppet master guy who worked for Enishi. He's holding the skull mask that he wore anyway, and his outfit does look closer to that. We never did see his face in the manga though.

And Tomoe looked like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v450/MAD_kun/MangaAnime/NVYT/tomoe_bw2.jpg

And I agree, the redesign Tomoe looks weird. It's like.. how does that hair work? It's like she's got bangs on top of bangs. o_O Her design before was a nice and simple beauty, which I thought Watsuki pulled off well. Why change that? =\

And oh yes, Aoshi with glasses really bothers me too. I like glasses on guys sometimes, but it just doesn't suit him IMO.

Neo Bahamut
06-01-2011, 02:20 AM
I presume it's changed to make her stand out more, because that design just screams "minor character."

BreakDamageLimit
06-01-2011, 03:44 AM
Tomoe doesn't look like Rei Ayanami anymore :( and Hiko stole WoL's hair.

And personally, I don't like Kenshin because he looks like a teenager.

Khell
06-01-2011, 05:22 AM
Eh, I think the point was to make Kenshin look younger because he was supposed to be young to begin with. He's certainly not as old as the other samurai from the era where he became Battousai.

On another note, that Kaoru redesign looks really beautiful. I'm not sure if I like the new one or the old one more ._.

Well, by the time the main story comes around (as a wanderer), he's supposed to be 28. =\

Neo Bahamut
06-01-2011, 06:05 AM
And he's also supposed to be scrawny for his age.

Kazama Kenshin
06-01-2011, 10:16 AM
Well, Kenshins' character was based on Kawakami Gensai, one of the great 4 hitokiri of the Revolution. Despite him being one of the deadliest men around, he was short and scrawny and often mistaken for a girl...

In general I find the original designs for all Rurouni Kenshin characters to be simpler and much more elegant... And still why on earth would a loner like Hiko living on a mountain wear a god damn suit! (<-- huge Hiko fan... sorry)

I should totally read the manga again though, I can't remember who half those people are :/

I checked the redesigns, and my personal faves are Aoshi, Sano, Hannya, Seta, Enishi, and Hiko.

Kinda mifed they didn't show Yahiko, but that's a minor miff.

If they make it just like DBZ Kai, i hope the choose nice VAs, not like the new DBZ Kai ones.

umm, dude its the same VA's and everything, the only things that are different are the, the openings and endings, the series will end after the Cell Arc, and for some reason, the blood is heavily edited out, and scenes of when a character dies aren't showed (hates those last two parts the most)
