Out of sheer curiosity would you place yourself as a 'new' gamer or one that likes the old time games (PS-X, SNES etc.)
Quite frankly I find myself enjoying a lot of old games from the ps-x because in my opinion, that and the ps2 were great platforms with really good games going for them.
I own a 360 and ps3 but tend to wonder just why I have them because no games seem to really appeal to me anymore. FF XIII and Versus look great so hopefully they'll be enough to make me rethink about selling my goods.
I just think that you could spend about the same amount on a PS-X game (at the time they were like $80+ -some still are) and get a much better experience compared to the games that you're able to get today for the same, if not higher, price tag.
I think I tend to enjoy the fact that games were once released without the whole hype around graphics and such - with the newer consoles I sometimes feel like the storyline is hardly paid attention to in some games and at other times it just feels like the game was just released to keep fans happy. (Yes Heavenly Sword I'm talking to you.)
So to answer my own question I think I'd name myself a Nostalgic Gamer. How about you?
New or old, doesnt matter to me, if its good, Ill play it

Nostalgia gamers are often obnoxious elitists who claim anything past 16-bit is mainstream and sub-par, whilst new gamers are obnoxious noobs that spam x-box live with the kind of grammar that makes you want to gouge your brain out with a rusty spoon.
I'm a squeeing fanboy, which means I am completely devoted to particular series (Seriei, plural? LOL) no matter what shite they produce.

Grammar issues.
I think Microsoft needs to have an auto correct or something but then again the spell checker wouldn't know where to start if that was the case.

It's called Retro gamers. D:
Most of my favourite games come from the PS1/Dreamcast era, but I overall prefer the SNES era. So I don't know, consider me retro I guess.
Still love some of the shit we're getting. SOME.

I'm along the lines of beating a game once and never touching it again *minus fighters or something SO awesome I go at it again*.

I play both old and new games. But it's entirely dependent on the mechanics, style, and story of the game. If I don't like it, I won't touch it again.
(and even then if I beat it there's a chance that I just drop the game)

And when Azazer drops the game he will lose it until looking for another game... *which won't be the one he finds... mainly several copies of SC*

I remember seeing the original FF and Zelda... never got into them since they were both in Japanese (My dad's friends copies... he did get me into playing Legends of Zelda Link to the past for the Snes though*english copy... so probably why I played it*)
I played the nes games, after I already got a wii, xbox 360, and PS3

I had a snes up until FFX came out which is when I got a PS2 *Yeah ^^ Good graphics*. From there i got FF8 (HATED IT >.> Minus the opening which was good). And I got a GameCube with SSBM etc like several years later... never got an Xbox till way later. I still need to get myself a PS3 for ad-hoc... but 300 dollars for just ad-hoc sounds stupid :3

I still own an Atari 2600, NES, SNES, and N64. I play my SNES and 64 WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than I'll ever play my PS3.
As an additional note I have a Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Advance, and a Game Boy Advance SP. However, I refuse to buy a Game Boy Micro because it is inferior to the SP. GBA SP is second only to SNES in my book, but it is most definitely the best handheld system ever.

so true =p Except when I'm playing games and not watching anime.
I would call myself a Newstalgic gamer >_>. Old games are awesome but mostly I just replay the games I grew up with and appreciate them even more! New games have their moments like Tales of Vesperia or Dissidia of course but then again there is a 100-1 crap ratio in new games. It was more like 5-1 back in the day with 3/5 being acceptable.
Xbox live is just a shitload of hardcore gamers either laid back and awesome to play with or pre-puberty kids with high pitched voices that complain about everything and think they are the best shit ever.

I still have my Atari, NES, SNES and Genesis lol
Not necessarily working, but I still have them :P
But now I put in the emulators into my PSP so I can play everything even N64 games whenever I want and fulfill my retro gaming urges.

I have a Sega Nomad which was never released here in Europe, and I have what I call 'a stack', which is nothing more than a Mega CD, Mega Drive (Genesis to you Americans), 32X, Game Genie, Sonic and Knuckles and Sonic 3 on top. It's huge!
But in all serious apart from that I still got some Atari's in my attic (Including 2600, 5200, 7800 and ST), Dragon 32/64, and several Atari Lynxes.
My Sega Saturn is still plugged into my TV aswell. I love you so much NiGHTs Into Dreams and Burning Rangers!
But yea, to say I'm a Nostalgic gamer is an understatement.

I am a new gamer. Sure, every so often I dust off the SNES and call a mate over to play those shitty games while drinking coke and mountain dew like water. Those are true Nostalgic days. But yes, I prefer new games and happen to be an XBL player. Little kids and fucking momma's boys make me sick on XBL. Especially when they are playing a game like Left 4 Dead. And they try ordering you around but I end up team killing them. :D.
A wise man once said. "Graphics don't make a great game." which is true.

*whoops sorry ~
And definetely. Graphics do not make a good game and I feel like that's what they concentrate on a lot. It's hard for me to pick games because I don't really trust reviews (some of them are lies!) and trailers normally show you the good stuff which can sometimes be very dire.
I'll always love my ps-x games. Very fun.. I was up the other night playing Crash Bandicoot for much longer than I should have. I wonder when I'll grow up.. XD

I'd say GiantBomb and InecomCompany are pretty trustworthy. Sometimes they're soft on some games, but they know who the games target and they usually mention it.

I also won't say that most games these days count on graphics because most of them are so fucking grey, that I can't see shit.

Well as it is I'm enjoying my PS3 a lot right now, but that doesn't mean I've abandonned my retro systems. I guess I can say I'm both, but then again I don't like either labels. I just like to game.

Certainly the nostalgic type here. I make it a point to speed run the old Mega Man games whenever I get the chance - As well as (re)play through all of my favorite RPGS!

I play both old and new, but tend to favor older games. Breath of Fire 3, Final Fantasy 8, Legend of the Dragoon are some of my main favorite games. So much more to list, but I do enjoy some newer ones.

I like both new and old games. Sometimes I get caught up in playing the generic cows that are being milked now and then go back to retro games and go "wtf they don't do things like this anymore in games! This is awesome!" Xenogears, Valkyrie Profile, Chrono Trigger and Legend of Dragoon come to mind. And sometimes there's a game that comes out with a brand spanking new idea like Shadow of the Colossus, Katamari, Patapon, Rez, or Scribblenauts where advanced technology actually helped create something new and fresh for games.
But yea.. I definitely don't play new games for the graphics. It's all about the fun gameplay, smart game design, or innovative idea.

I don't have a preference, though I will always take great game design over a rehashed concept any day.
I still play Yoshi's story, yet I emote in the possibilities we are unlocking with some of today's games with concepts like a game with no conflict (Endless Ocean) and a first person shooter with no people to shoot (Portal) and a many other wonderful creations like World of Goo and Braid.
