It's as simple as this, really. That's the best way to solve all character selection issues for the first match.

Can you really trust people to do that though? They could easily quickly check who you're playing as before picking their own character xD

As previously stated, eliminate Feral for quite obvious reasons. I'd like to say "limit his moves" but he simply has too many moves that are that good.

First stage selection I feel should be randomized with the players cutting short and selecting the non-omega version should the randomized stage be an omega version.

As far as CP system, I do like the "Loser gets first char and stage pick" setup. As long as the loser has advantage I don't really mind though(seriously, what the hell was that winner's advantage setup?)

Deadlines, I don't really give a damn as long as the tourney is finished. I do feel these tend to drag though, although it's hard to line up deadlines I feel stricter measures need to be enforced.

I don't think allowing Omega should be kosher. It's unnecessarily extreme and completely indecent to use in a tournament setting. I don't think anyone used it in this tournament, but they could have if they wanted and I believe it should be banned proper so that no one is upset down the line.

A number of matches also had very strange occurances, namely two people both changing characters after a match, completely disregarding the CP rules that we had:
    PHP Code:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdaf41jZgRU
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBSwc9TCqhk
(The above is matches 2 3but they still both changed character after match 2)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Au69SwBueE
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRj83QQuDkM
Were special circumstances allowed? These are all matches where there was no third match played, so I'm not sure why both players would have picked a different character.
(Upon reflection, it is also possible I simply have misunderstood the CP system entirely!)

E: Forgot to comment on the other things.

I agree with Draec Khin down there on first picks/rolling omega stages on Random.
Counterpicks definitely work best as "Loser's Choice" I feel, where the loser is free to pick stage/character and the opponent uses what wasn't picked (IE Loser picks Character, Winner would then be free to change Stage or vice versa).
Deadlines were fine as-is. 2 days is sufficient time to arrange a match and play, any longer and the tournament could easily drag on for far longer than comfortable.

On - First match character/stage selection issues(most notably: who decides)

(Should be random or stage agreed by two players. If they get an omega, and omegas are not allowed, they should quit and select non-omega version of the same stage and continue with the same setup.)

    On - Counterpicks
(The loser should have stage selection and character choice. So the loser should select the stage first, the winner should be able to determine his/her character, and than the loser picks his/her character)

    On - Deadlines
(I think 3-4 days should be good enough. 3 days for first half of a tournament, and 4 for the last half where competition gets more serious. Special Arrangments should be allowed for the finals)

I think there should be chosen stages as the game is far too reliant on stage selection, it gives unfair advantages with every different match-up in the game. 2-3 selected maps with low brave stage, a good aerial game, and a good ground game should be chosen so no one can complain about losing to brave stage, everyone has access to a strong aerial game, and a strong ground game. I'm not much for one to choose random because I always wanna play a map fair to both players dependent on the characters selected by both players. For example, I'm playing Emperor and we land on Ultimecia's Castle...I'm nearly done for from the get go just because of the random stage selection alone and that is a problem because tournaments aren't suppose to be luck based, it's suppose to be skill based. Random is pure luck and give advantages and disadvantages to either player and in a competitive setting that shouldn't be included. Equal maps should be selected for the characters chosen and the stages should be tested with each match-up and slowly cut down to the top 3 most balanced map selections for every character/match-up. Yeah, the same maps might get boring, but honestly, most the maps are pretty horrible in the game anyways. I'd be willing to sacrifice most the maps for a better competitive scene. Luck should be removed as much as possible in a tournament.

Regardless, there are better options for match-ups by selected stages rather then random select and the map be great for one character and horrible for the other. Might as well fix the issue as much as possible, rather then taking a negative attitude towards it and not fix the issue, or make an attempt. Know what I mean? I think its worth testing and putting time into.
