45 on a punishing move when it's preferable to go for an HP link. There are just quite a decent number of characters that hit harder than Firion. Kain and Prishe, for example. I'm just saying there are more notable characters for their damage output, not that Firion's damage output is bad (again, it's quite solid).

Ahhh, that makes more sense, yeah. Damage builds are good for...well...damage. Aha.

Yeah, I tried that build a little more and getting breaks becomes a lot easier. The great thing is that while Firion isn't a damage king, he can choose to do a lot of BRV damage or go for HP damage + depletion with his ground attacks. I usually just go for HP links as usual, only going for the punch when I'm close to breaking the opponent. Assist combos are also capable of doing a lot of damage if I use one that hits hard.

Completely rewrote the two builds in the first post (the SbS and EX force ones) with optimized setups and information that's relevant to the current meta. Couldn't have had Succubus' Soul as an option still after all this time.
I also added two builds to the second post and wrote information for them. I'm tired of writing and reading right now, so the information for the depletion/initial assist build might be a little lackluster in comparison with the rest. I'll reread it tomorrow and fix it if needed.
Oh, and thanks to LonelyGaruga (again.) for helping me with pinpointing the uses for the SbS and EX force builds. Thanks to RandomFactor as well for showing me his variation of the damage build, giving me ideas of other options for it.

The Succubus' Soul set isn't very good because you don't have the freedom of choosing which weapon to equip, as it is a 4 piece set. And since it's a SbS build, Seal of Lufenia's EX depletion would be a lot more beneficial. The HP drain would work best in long matches, while SbS aims to finish matches as soon as possible before its weakness to EX mode can show. While it may seem logical to go for it because a SbS build would be for chipping, it actually doesn't synergize very well and it's inferior to Seal of Lufenia.
Since you have damage boosting accessories on, I suggest equipping the Wild Rose as your weapon to increase damage. Equipment set should be Seal of Lufenia (preferably including the Lufenian Dirk for the +1 ATK.)
The rest of the accessories is fine.
As for the question about ground Swordslash, I can't think of a single instance where it's beneficial to replace it. Regardless of the build, it's very helpful to have a quick attack to stop the assist gauge from dropping and generally punishing people that get too close, as well as forcing people to guess whether to block preemptively or not when they're in range. And while SbS helps a lot with getting assist, you won't get any unless you land a HP attack, so assist building is still important.

Swordslash and Rope Knife are must haves. So the third slot is usually a choice between Lance Combo and Reel Axe. I explain their uses in the Firion guide, so take a look at it if you're unsure of which to keep.
If you want a short answer though, Lance Combo is generally more useful and safer. Reel Axe can be useful when Lance Combo isn't effective against the opponent's character (such as CoD.) But outside that, almost everything it can do, Straightarrow and Lord of Arms can do better. Oh, it's also useful for assist combos, depending on the assist.
