How did you start playing as Exdeath? And why?

So basically every single one in this forums must have used Exdeath more than a few times, right? Why did you start using him and how did you play when you first used him?

Personally, I didn't know how to properly block (in general) when I first used him. So I just spammed RP because it looked cool and it was annoying. But then I fought a good Exdeath player in my class and got pwned. RP-SPAM FTW! I started using him because I liked his character in FFV and I wanted to see how his Delta Attack looked like.

I don't think everyone here has used him, but I picked him up as my main from day 1, due to him being my favorite FF villain of all time. In fact, the prospect of playing as Exdeath was one of the biggest factors in getting me to buy the first game.

I don't really play him at all myself. The main reason I come to this section of the forum is to see what Exdeath players are doing and see if there are any ways to trip them up if I happen to run into them (which was also one of the motivations for me creating the thread about his Guards). I like to see what I should expect in an Exdeath's attack repertoire and what I can do to avoid falling right into their hands.

Lemme guess your first reaction when you played him: "OMGWTFBBQ he's slow!" Am I right or is it only me?

Nah, it was more of adjusting to trying to block my opponent's moves instead of dodging and countering (particularly things that have a higher priority, like Heel Crush or Ultimecia's Charged Axes). I ended up just using Omni Guard for most of my cases when I play him, instead of having to learn whether to High Guard or Omni Guard (in DFF). When I played Exdeath for the first time in DDFF, it was a lot of adjusting to the new speed of the game and I completely dropped Turn Guard in favor of Omni Guard and 2 other attacks. Now that I know about Protect and Shell guard's priorities, I try (when I do play him) to see if characters favor one type of attack over another instead of relying on my timing (particularly if it gets laggy).

Then I respect you guys. When I first played as Exdeath I honestly became bored all of a sudden because I was used to Squall's quick striking attacks.

Aww. Now I wanna start mastering him XD.

I was just leveling people up and when I got to him I liked his playstyle, once I got used to him of course, although blocking some characters is hard, mainly Squall and O.K. at times. But I guess one good thing that came out from is now that I have better reactions in games. And another thing that made have a slightly easier time with him is that I main Jecht, so I was used to blocking attacks.

I used Exdeath in Dissidia mostly against Chaos, first because of AP farming, then for fun, because Exdeath obliterates him.

And in Duodecim, I use him because of the Sword Dance cancel:
