picked Gabby up the other day and really loving him but i do have a rather annoying problem.
How do u "catch" ppl who just run away from you until your out of Ex on big stages?
in smaller stages i have no problem getting them but in the big ones they can just run all they long = (
One option you have is to use a quick assist with Assist Chase (like Tidus's Hop Step assist) and use the time they spend running away to build your assist bars up. Find an opening to punish them with your assist, and just teleport across the stage for a free hit. Otherwise, the only thing you can do is chase them down and hope they screw up.
Though apart, forever connected.

Spoiler:
You could also use a BRV regen set, since your opponent's busy running away from you and not actually attacking you, as well as what Khellendros suggested.

You could go for an ex revenge build. But people are always going to run from gabby
If you aren't worried about your assist bar, you could always use Concentration to bait them toward you.
Though I don't usually go into Ex mode until I get them in a Sentence>assist combo, or have an opening big enough for going into Ex, then attacking.

Concentration+ to lure them. Also, using Free Air Dash Boost to increase your speed can help as well. Gabranth has the one of the highest movement speeds in his EX Mode (all other characters are slower unless they have a speed boost in their EX Mode like Tidus or Prishe).
Also, using a quick assist like Tidus can help in closing the gap.
I'd also like to note that Gabranth is one of the most Stage based characters in the game (along with Emperor). What I mean by that is that it's usually the stage that will determines how well Gabranth will do (ignoring skill level), and character matchup being second (which is not typically the case). In tight stages, with low ceilings, but not too small where he is constantly under pressure (aka Phantom Train) he excels. Maps like Pandemonium, M.S. Prima Vista, Lunar Subterrane, Kefka's Tower, and Pandemonium Top Floor are good examples of stages where he can do modestly well. If you plan to main Gabranth, I'd also recommend picking up a second character to deal with his less favorable matchup situations.

Mains: Garland | Vaan | GabranthSpoiler:
As a Gabranth mainer I would tell you that the running away hurts them in so many ways. If they do run away you just get free assists chasing them and you can always delay activating your ex mode. All you have to do is catch them once with sentence, activate an assist like Jecht or Kuja and activate ex mode to deal out the hurt. Gabranth can be stage dependent but you would be happy to know that a regen set can do about 2k brave per ex mode with a right set, and they will think twice about running away. Pretty much any damage they do will be negated by your Regen recovery and or a boost to your brave.
Also if they do run away that means they will be using OAD, and they will soon get tired running away sine FAD on Gabranth can keep up with them. You are working less chasing them than they are at running away.
I don't recommend concentration because it will kill your assists, and Gabranth needs them badly. Every single one counts. Unlike other characters, you cannot afford to lose them.
SnL is a better alternative and I would highly recommend if they have OAD.
As for stages, you may also want to choose a medium stage where chasing is easier and staying away from them is easier as well when charging. Edge of Madness may seem like a great map for Gabranth, but it is as bad as the Rift, if not worse. Really small maps can end the match quick before you even get your first ex mode. You should do fine in most stages as Gabranth match ups are usually 5-5 even with high tiers.
I recommend that you practice more with Gabranth and you will soon see that running away from Gabranth just doesn't work out that great as it did in the first game.
