Thread: Solid Ascension or Ascendent Lance

    Default Solid Ascension or Ascendent Lance

     
    I've seen this discussion before but I'm not really sure which one I should equip. It's mostly just a question of abilities. However Solid Ascension is slightly closer range which makes it a tad more dangerous to use. But it has a Counterattack ability added on it...

    So I'm wondering if it's worth it to equip Solid Ascension and deequip Counterattack completely, or would it be better to have Counterattack on all the time and use either one?

    This was a discussion I had in my Bartz guide for a bit, at first I thought Ascendant Lance, which has a longer range) was a better choice, but I grew to love Solid ascension,since it could position the opponent for some nice holy spamming, and counterattack is awesome. So i'd say Solid Ascension, but its based mostly on preferences. They can both be used after dodge canceling reel impulse

    Both good imo. Solid ascension is really hard to block on reaction but because of it's range, you have to be more careful while punishing. The Ascendent lance is somewhat easier to punish because of it's range and decent startup time (not nearly as good as Solid Ascension though)

    This is a really hard debate. What we really need is some solid data on damage to compare the two that way.

    I personally like Solid Ascension because it's faster and if my opponent is in range of Ascendant Lance, chances are I'd rather use Reel Impulse and combo into something. Neither of them combo into anything though they can both be combo'd from Reel Impulse.

    Oh the other hand though, it seems like Bartz really doesn't want his opponents to be higher on the stage than he is (for Holy camping purposes), so maybe Solid Ascension would be worse in this respect since it launches them straight up.

    Either way, I'd reccommend the counterattack ability regardless of which attack you use. You'll need it if you're using Ascendant Lance and if you're using Solid Ascension the worst that could happen is if their effects don't stack.

    Ultimately though you have to try out both and figure out what works best for you.

    That was obvious sarcasm if anyone couldn't tell.

    Holy camping is hard to do on some stages anyway. Pandemonium and Kefka's Tower specifically, but basically anywhere with a low ceiling. I've found it hard to do on Planet's Core too but maybe that's just me. I hate that stage in general.

    Directly up is still good for holy camping, since its still hard to see, just not as safe

    Yesh, I was being sarcastic too ;P. Yeah I hate that stage, everything just feels too confined and tight.

    Idk, generally I've found it easier for your opponent to come down on you than to come up.

    That what I meant in not as safe, its easier for them to charge at you, so you gotta be pretty quick
