I have tried repeatedly to play Duodecim over LAN (not by Ad-Hoc or XLink Kai, we're just sitting next to each other) and whenever we go into a lobby, it's empty with just my card in there. No matter what we do, nothing changes and while it worked in Dissidia, it doesn't want to work at all in Duodecim.
I know plenty of people who manage to play Duodecim over LAN, but it won't work.
Are there any suggestions for this?

Are both of your running the same regional copy of the game? While DFF could handle cross-regional matches, DDFF no longer has this trait. You both need to be using an ISO/UMD of the same region.

PSP Model-types shouldn't have any bearing on this whatsoever. The only thing I can recommend from here is double-checking to make sure you're both on the same Ad-Hoc and wireless channels through your PSP configuration menu. You can also try Group Mode which has a much better rate of connectivity than the online singles lobby.
If you still can't get it to work then it sounds like one of you has a faulty or malfunctional wireless board within your PSP. This was the case with a friend of mine. We did everything perfectly right and set up but we could never connect because his PSP itself was just faulty; it tends to happen in older PSPs and his was six years old, so it just burnt out over the years. If that's the case, you need a new PSP.

wow wow maybe not an entire new PSP, a reparation like that costs about 20€ if you know good places. Original ordered pieces from Sony inc itself and all ...
But yeah I'd check if you can play with him on other games like PES or any other one, if yes then check if you both have the same versionof the game, for that search for the save slot on your memory card it should be the exact same name for both of you (ULESxxxx or ULULxxxx) for eur or us versions. Chaos already said everything in fact.

Spoiler:
Unusual that it's been consistent between two of my friends PSPs. We're on the same Ad-Hoc channels and it still doesn't seem to be working. I haven't tried doing Group Mode more than a few times, but even then it didn't work.

It's a little obnoxious when we get that issue even over AHP. Our standard solution is to try and have the two players in a group room. For some reason, sometimes a player can't see another in the single player lobby, but can see the other player's group room just fine.
Though apart, forever connected.
