I have tried this (although against AI so it's not worth much) little idea using shield bash where you sheild bash the assists that the enemy sends and then fire using the magical retaliation attack on the actual enemy. However to do this auto-assist is off and thus may be much easier to punish.
Good idea and worth keeping or a poor one and then why?
no one is gonna try to assist punish firions dodges on the ground.
EDIT: in a real fight you will never get their assist with firion.

I prefer to run without Auto Assist Lock-On. It makes it that much tastier when people screw up their floor rush combos. You missed your combo and you're getting SB > Assist > Reel Axe > Double Trouble.
It's a keeper, keep it.

If Auto-assist is on then the relation strike will go to the Enemies assist which whom would be gone so the attack is wasted.
The odds of Shield Bashing your opponent's assist are extremely low against any opponent that's competent with assist usage.

Yeah, a human opponent isn't going to try to punish Firion's ground dodge with an assist, or use it if Firion can Shield Bash it. There might be very rare exceptions for assists that have higher priority attacks, but we all know how common those are >_>

...I really don't see how a terrible assist for combos would be useful just because it can be used to punish the dodges of a character that has a ground dodge that's impossible to punish with low priority moves. Not to mention that if you time it wrong WoL just gets Rope Knifed in the face.
