In any case, since the question was 'which do you prefer', I'd have to say the 2nd. Really, it's called Shadow Flare, not Shadow Orb. Though I was amused by what was probably the most powerful Enemy Skill in FFVII becoming... that.
And it makes sense to base it off VII, that's the first game and not everyone who was a FF fan played KH. (They didn't have to play FF to play Dissidia either, but that's nitpicking).
On another unrelated note, it's also weird how SE seems to use Fusillade for lots of things other than gunners...
Shadow flare in FFVII was a bunch of black orbs popping up on an all white screen.
Shadow Flare is supposed to be an inverted version of Flare. Dark energy collects in one spot *the enemy* and then explodes outwards. In a way, Dissidia's shadow flare is correct in that the dark energy is collecting in one spot, but it never explodes back outward again.

Which still looks nothing like the dissidia version. I didn't even associate shadow flare with the FFVII version until I first saw this thread.
