Reinhard: HAHAHAHAHA! Don't look so down, Nybeth! There's always next year!

Nybeth throws a most amazing scowl in Reinhard's direction. Mind you, Reinhard almost missed it when a waiter carrying champagne walked in front of Nybeth, obscuring him from view.

Cristian: Nybeth got eliminated. Man, karma picked a great day to bite him.
Lizzy: Focus. The round's almost over.

*Meanwhile...*

Girl:...And then some guards came up and started giving us a hard time.
Boy:...You're right. I don't believe it.
Girl:But-
Boy:It doesn't matter. No we're all here, we'll proceed with the next phase of the plan. I've already got Cyrris' (pronounced like 'Cirrus' as in the cloud) team in position. We just need to get the listed targets in the room...
Girl:There's a slight problem...
Boy:What?
Girl:Well, apparently one of the guys on our list, Cilian Troudeau, he was killed recently.
Boy:...Then we'll take someone else. You got an attendee roster on you?
Girl:No, but lemme check the ticket booth computers...

*The girl quickly runs over to one of the ticket booths and punches in a series of override codes into the computer*

Girl:Got it. Hmm, how 'bout this Nybeth guy?
Boy:Negative. I know his type, he'd just make things more difficult.
Girl:Well, we can count out the Inspectors and anyone else who could put up a fight...Ooh!
Boy:What?
Girl:Apparently, Troudeau had a niece...Danica Kronquist. She should be a decent substitute, eh?
Boy:Make it so.

[Xernuht]

(seems lolNybeth is becoming a recurring theme...)

Luca: *sigh* Sorry. Looks like I messed up.
Lina: It's fine. We did our best.

Luca and Lina left the dance floor, having been eliminated. As Dyne and Danica passed them while continuing, Dyne sighed.

Dyne: Well that sucks.

Elsewhere on the dance floor...

Cristian: Damn. Luca just got eliminated.
Lizzy: Sorry to hear.

*Back outside, the two groups meet up with eachother, out of the view of the security cameras*

Boy:Good to see you've all made it in safely.
Girl:Likewise. So, how do we proceed?

*Before the boy can open his mouth, Nybeth bursts out of the building in a huff, muttering expletives against Matteo under his breath. He takes a few steps and notices the group of infiltrators disguised as security*

Nybeth:You, there! Yes, you six! I am Nybeth, nephew of the current Ambassador to the Gordian Empire, and I wish to be escorted home. Tons of miscreants out at this time of night, you see...Whoever wishes to do me this favor shall be rewarded.

*The boy and girl look at eachother and exchange knowing grins*

Boy:I think we can arrange something, milord.

(lolNybeth is indeed going to be a thing.)

[Xernuht]

(Sweet.)

Announcer: There will be a brief break before the next round begins. Congratulations to everyone who has advanced to the next round. I will inform you when the second round will begin.

A round of applause filled the hall as the dancers finished their routines, then broke apart to take their well-earned break.

Reinhard: Liezelotte! Come here and celebrate your first-round victory!
Cristian: Go ahead, there are some people I'd like to talk to.
Lizzy: Sure. Just don't skip out on the second round.
Cristian: I thought you trusted me!

Cristian jogs across the dance floor, where Dyne, Luca, Lina, and Danica were sitting and enjoying a round of drinks.

Danica: It really does suck that you were eliminated
Lina: Yeah, well stuff happens.
Dyne (noticing Cristian): Hey! Congrats on making it to round 2!
Luca: Yeah! Looks like it's you and Dyne squaring off from here on out.
Cristian: No way! Who's your partner?
Danica: Yo! Danica Kronquist, Private. Nice to meetcha!
Cristian: Major Kronquist's sister?
Danica: One and the same.
Cristian: Well then, Private Cristian Veight, your competition, representing the people of Baticul in the place of Lord Reinhard Kaplan. The pleasure's all mine.
Dyne: You wanna stay and have a drink before round 2?
Cristian: Not quite yet. There's someone else I need to talk to before we have to dance. Later!

Scanning the crowd, Cristian found who he was looking to talk to. Jogging over to them, he waited for a brief break in the conversation, then acted.

Cristian: Inspector Keide, Major Kronquist, congratulations on advancing to the second round.

Mattéo:Same to you Veight. Don't expect any favors on the floor, though.

[Xernuht]

Cristian: I wouldn't expect any, sir. Now, I want to formally apologize for my behavior at the gates earlier, and let you know I'm glad my actions didn't impede on your upcoming promotion.

Matteo:Consider yourself forgiven, Cristian.
Keide:What?
Matteo:Crisian here had an...altercation with lord Nybeth. It's nothing that should be ruminated on, but it will be noted in tomorrow's report of the evening's events. Won't it, Private?

[Xernuht]

Cristian: Aye, sir.

Matteo:Good. Now then, why don't you introduce us to your lovely dance partner?

*Matteo gestures to Lizzy, who is approaching from behind*
