I used to be like that, too. I walked into Creative Writing thinking it'd be all novels and plays and short stories, etc. Then I get the syllabus with the year's curriculum and I saw poetry, fairy tales, and all this other stuff I had no interest in. I was pretty upset and I was convinced it was gonna suck.

Then, I wrote my first poem. Ever. I had never written a poem before that class, only novels. To my surprise, I ended up loving poetry. Particularly, I really really really love writing sonnets. There's just something about them, I don't know. But yeah, if you haven't actually tried writing a poem, though, you might want to give it a shot. Your inner poet might just be hiding away like mine was. :P

That's an interesting story. I will take your advice and try it although I'm horrible at rhyming lol not that it needs to rhyme XD
If I make make published books I can write a simple poem..or at least I should lol. Thanks Chaos.

Yeah, should isn't the word there. It's definitely can. I recommend you try writing different forms first. Write a sonnet, an ode, an anaphora, a free verse, etc. Then think about which one you liked writing the most or which one came out best (or both) and write more of that form. That's a good practice routine.

There should be a poetry contest on the forums. I know there are more people who can write poems on here but is probably to shy to post their work. I would say you would mod the competition but it might be hard if you mod it and enter it huh? Might be wrong

Anyway I would give it a shot and enter since I know I can put a deep meaning behind the poem. Just need the right choice of words

Nah, don't think it'd be too difficult. However, I wouldn't be able to be a judge in that place. I don't think it'd be fair for the mod of the competition to judge his own work. There's going to be bias there no matter what. There'd have to be a separate, dedicated panel of judges for scoring.

It's an interesting idea, though. I think it'd go off swimmingly if done.

That's what I meant by modding it. You would be in charge of the whole thing including the judging and then I thought oh wait nevermind because of basically what you just said not about bias. Maybe Kaya? Well you know what maybe someone who writes or does creative thinking/writing could do it. Can't just have a mod who doesn't know that much about poetry do it.

You know anyone of the sort here?

Someone that could fill that role...I'm not sure. The writing section was more or less completely dead until Terri revived it (and thank god she did) so I don't know of people's potentials or interest in this subject matter at all. It'd probably require a poll of some kind.

I agree to this. That would be fun. I wish I could be the judge of this but I really want to enter :3 Maybe we should make a thread calling out to all the members who write poems. Yes? No?

Now regarding the poems...I had time to read them slowly...and w/ no one rushing on me...
All your poems are awesome...if you'd aim for a writter carrer I'm sure you'd have quitte the big succes...the poem I like the most would be Static ~ Shakespearean Sonnet. The other pems are awesome too...but this one...dunno...it's deep...and inspiring...
