Like Cloud, he has two different moves that are the opposites, now which one is better.
I prefer Heaven's light, its hard to perfect, but its worth perfecting.
I like it in general, Hells Gate might have good range, but its hard to hit
high A.I'd NPCS.
You need to have both in the move sets.
But Heaven's Light is more used and more effective, I also prefer it more and there's nothing like ending a match with a Heaven's light near a ceiling.
Aerial Octaslash has pretty limited uses. You're better off with both.
If you're seriously intent on trying to work with Aerial Octa, go with Heaven's Light. It combos very well with a majority of Assists. Also, it's a confirmed single hitting HP, allowing you to bypass final EX-Revenges, and it's more of a pseudo-double dodge than Hell's Gate.

On-topic, I prefer Hell's gate, since it hits more than once. If you get lucky, you could get someone on Break before they even have time to counter-act.

yep. i prefer hells gate too. its like he said. it can hit a few times, and eventually call a break( only happens a really few times in my opinion) but i'd like to have heaven's light in my attacks too.

I prefer Heaven's Light in the rare occasions I play Sephiroth due to the quick movement and lower cooldown on the move. Also much easier to combo with it from Shadow Flare. Of course, I also don't like Aerial Octaslash. Usually I run Scintilla instead to cover dodges, and then fill out the moveset with Hell's Gate for vertical travel in tandem with Oblivion.

I prefer Heaven's Light. :P It's faster than HG, and it's that rise and dive sort of move. Like Tidus' Energy Rain. And Heaven's Light moves you so much that it helps avoid some attacks. Like Keff's Blizzaga or Cloud's Braver if you dodged too early. :P
I personally like Heaven Light over Hell's Gate since it comes out a bit faster, easier to punish bad dodges and chains well into SF pressure( so does HG though). HL is a bit better because you have up, left, right, and neutral dodges, and no real down dodges so your more likely to be below your enemy rather than above. You can either one or both really, there are pretty close in terms of effectiveness.
