Liaku was close but Chaos hit the nail on the head with the point about the weakness from below. XD

Since interest has tailed off (sorry for torturing your guys with this for so long), we'll be calling an end to this contest once Balguna's hint is solved.
Though apart, forever connected.

Spoiler:
balgunas hint has been up over 24 hours, the time for the hint has already expired...
also no matter who gets the hint it doesn't change top three lineup, racknig our brains over it now seems pointless because no one can get a better prize except for cross and liaku to tie, in which a tie breaker would have to be made.

Onion Knight Guide
Currently playing: Meltyblood - undecided, P4A - Akihiko S. Labrys, PSABR - Spike FP Kat
UNBEEEEELIVABLE going to end so soon? ): ): ):
I was hoping for an easier hint :|
Well people kinda seemed to lose interest XD Unless there's a sudden influx of people guessing, I guess people just got exhausted. It was fun while it lasted though.
That said, here's the solution to the reference nobody wanted to guess. :P
Not that hard to grasp here- Terra and Lightning, the only two female main characters, have similiar bottom values, and their right/left values are just swapped.
Terra only joined Team Cosmos after Lightning left it. Also, they have similiar stats... but their right/left ones are opposite. Their personalities are also near opposites- Lightning is decisive and take charge, Terra is more timid.I never knew you were on my side. We're completely opposite... but I guess pretty similiar at the same time.
There were 3 female Cosmos Warriors, but after Terra joined, she was the only one. There were three of us... but I guess now that all of us are gone, you're the only one .
Terra was on Team Chaos, aka the enemy, while Lightning was on Team Cosmos. 'Riot' is a reference to Riot Blade, Terra's Desperation Attack/EX Burst. You were on the enemy's side? It must have been a riot.
I guess the contest is over; congratulations to Liaku, Cross and Shuruka. We'll have all the unanswered references up soon.
Ok, first things first, I'll fill you in on the references that you didn't get:
Level 10:
Cloud, Cecil, Firion, and Tidus are traveling partners, and cover an A in every position (Firion provides an A for two sides, but the four are connected.)
Level 9
Emperor and Ultimecia were plotting together in 012, so their mirrored A and 2 values enable them to make plays off of each other, like Same or Same Wall.
Laguna and CoD were opposed in the 012 story, and their opposing strong values represent this.
Vaan and Kefka are opposed in the 012 story, and their opposing strong values represent this.
Level 8
The idea behind Gilgamesh was to just shift his values, which helped us with the portal to the Void reference.
Adding up Gabranth's values will add up to 24, a multiple of 12.
The dual 9s are a FFIX reference. Yes, it was that obvious. XD
Level 7
This is supposed to be a callback to the FFVIII deck, with Leviathan being one of the rare cards in the high levels with a 1 and good for plus setups. This one's a bit of a stretch even for us, but it was intentional. Sorry :P
Level 6
The value on the bottom is the weakest on purpose. The idea is that it's "down" on Phoenix, a slight reference to Phoenix Downs.

Spoiler:
Level 5
Starting from Scarmiglione (who was the Back Attack reference by "attacking" the left side) and going clockwise following their strong values, the Archfiends are encountered in the same order they are in FFIV.
Magic Potstolecopied its values from Iron Giant, but Chocobo shuffled them and its own! (Ridiculous, I know.)
The DDFF Malboro was specifically built to be opposite of the FFVIII card.
Level 3
Like Malboro, Bomb is built to be opposite its FFVIII card.
Multi Level References
Aerith is built as a Cloud contrast like Tifa was, but it's less apparent because she has 1 strong value and 2 semi-strong values.
Bartz is beaten by Chocobo on both weak sides, intended to be a reference to how Bartz is connected to Chocobos through Boco.
Shinryu attempts to cover Feral Chaos's weak sides, a reference to the use of the Shinryu Summon on both Feral Chaos and Chaos.
Golbez and Kain are connected via the brainwashing of Kain, so they cover each others' weaknesses. The values are also opposing based on their different fighting styles (ground vs air).
The strongest value for Vaan strikes at Gabranth's weakness, for their rivalry.
That's everything!
