and to answer your question a lot of people are posting less, going onto the irc i do believe, and some are probably forgetting all about DF (sad thought there but it's quite possibly true), and more so probably don't have anything to post about nowadays.
I know I myself have been busy with a lot of stuff lately but i still come back to the good old forums
Think of it more like an old-school chat room. Most people prefer to converse there since it allows for quick discussion. Not to mention most people have time to kill to talk about other things, as well.
