I felt bad for Kirito. But at least he got closure with the message Sachi left him. I honestly didn't feel bad for her though, it's hard for me to care about someone who appears in one episode and then dies at the end of the episode.
^Srsly? Guess you're the only one, then.
Screen time is a shallow way to gauge how sympathetic a character is.
True, but also not really. How can you care for a character that's only in on episode, and in SAO it wasn't even really about Sachi. It was about Kirito protecting the Black Cats. Once she died he wanted to atone for not being able to save her we didn't learn anything about her really. Besides the fact that she wanted to live and get out of the game alive. Sorry but that's not enough to actually make me care after her death. Unless there are a bunch of flashbacks later on, or the death ends up being over dramatic *cough* Corpse Party *cough*

I like how the title of this episode was so apt for 3 different things. "Red Nosed Reindeer"
1) Kirito being treated like one.
2) That Christmas event thing.
3) The song Sachi sang (which is probably related to number 2)
Either way it was a good episode ^_^b

A little neko has finally stumbled into this topic. =D *hugs neko-chan*
That's actually a pretty heartless way to think about it. It's enough that Sachi is a likable character and suffered a terrible fate she shouldn't have, along with her friends. We don't need their pasts to feel sorry for what happened to them, let alone dedicate an episode for her. Sure, they could've been more fleshed out, but as it is, what happened is enough to make people care for her. Their demise is also the first visceral display of everything that could go wrong in a twisted game like SAO and the author played the drama just right.
On the contrary, if her death becomes overplayed in the future episodes, it'd certainly lessen the impact of this episode and make it seem cheap. I doubt I'd like that.
From what little I read about the future, it shouldn't. On the other hand, considering how the animated adaptation may add more, it is possible.
Now, in regards to the emotional impact of her death, let's get the timeline straight.
Total audience time with Sachi and the Black Cats: 12-15 minutes, tops.
Total Kirito time with them: Months, day in, day out, in a game where anyone can die at any time.
The point of the episode was to make Kirito hurt, sadly, and it did a damn good job at that.

Damn foo' what the hell are you doing over there? ಠ_ಠ
F**k yes, that was awesome. Also, the following line.
"Just so we're clear, I'm a solo player. One or two days of being orange mean nothing to me."
I don't care if it was a bluff or not, but by that point in the show, it really didn't matter, which made it even more awesome.
Now can they hurry it up and bring Asuna back?
Oh, right. Also, 5 days until the Crossing Field single gets released!
