The Japanese i makes the e sound, so that is why you would want to pronounce Tidus and Tifa as Teedus and Teefa, but if you're an English speaker it is perfectly fine to pronounce the names with an i sound if you so desire. It depends if you want to be politically correct or not![]()

If you put in that way, it should be read as "Tee-doos", wich is what italians do, like me; in italian grammar language, an "i" means an "i", and an "u" mean an "u", not "ai" and "a". So basically, the name can change structure if it can adapt to the specific grammar. But since the official/canonic name is "Tee-dus", it should be stay that way.
