Of course they denied the rumors. When you got a big projects under wraps that you want to keep secret, you're supposed to deny all rumors.

Except they had advertisements for FFXII all the way back when FFVIII/FFIX was basically released. They would rather generate the hype of FFXV rather than hide it.

They've never kept an FF project secret and they cannot outright lie to people in general.

They never denied there wasn't an FFXIV though. They did however deny an FFXV.

Except they did. The whole time "Rapture" was in development they never confirmed it was Final Fantasy related. I still remember when FFXIV was announced at E3. Everyone was shocked and the announcer was being all smug because it was the only thing they were able to stop from being publicly leaked.

Hyping a project too early can result in a negative backlash. All the hype for Final Fantasy Versus XIII is all but dead now and people are still waiting for new information.

Noting the track record of the informant I posted on page one, and the fact that Hiroyuki is currently working on an unannounced game, I see no reason to completely deny the rumors yet. I say we wait until Hiroyuki's project is finally revealed to see if it really is or isn't FFXV. Anything else and it will just be the two of us disagreeing with one another over and over again. xD

You missed my whole point. (Infact, you missed BOTH of my main points about this subject matter.) They never once denied FFXIV was in development. They didn't confirm Rapture was FFXIV, they did not however deny that FFXIV was in development.

My point is: In 2010, Square denied that FFXV was in development. All their Main Final Fantasy projects went too FFXIII-2 or FFXIII Versus or FFXIV.

Now does it mean that I'm saying FFXV is not in development now? No, I'm not. I'm just saying it's most likely rumour because in 2010, they actually DENIED FFXV was in development. Denying is NOT the same as "Not Confirming."

Except pretty much all the (Mainstream) FF games, except FFX, FFXII and FFXIII are pretty open worlded. Sure, it's not nearly as 'open worlded' as Skyrim, but in that case that's more of a size issue than anything.

What you mean is basically a game where it's an open world straight off the bat, which technically one of the games DID have.


Edit: I also recall them saying that FFXV a couple of years ago. It may have begun work recently, but a couple of years ago (2010) they denied any rumour that FFXV was even in the works.

There's a difference between open world sandbox game and a game with a lot of exploration and side quests.
