I'd have to imagine to the franchise. Although, Stance systems like the Weapon Triggers in DmC aren't widely used, despite being a nice alternative to hot-swapping in some cases.

On a side note, a lot of the videos shown are all from people on the floor, so they aren't generally that good. Here's one from a guy who as he said "played for a month," so he does a very good job of showing off a lot of the different stuff you can do, and talks about some of the features, as well...

You'll have to skip ahead to like 02:00 to the start of the game.

Well if you watch that video and this one side by side you'll see why people are mad. DmC is nowhere near as quick paced or smooth as its predecessors. When someone bodies a boss in DMC4, it's because they know all the patterns and are able to dance around his ass like a butterfly.

If you go back and watch the other video I posted, when someone bodies the boss in DmC it is because they blocked an attack and then pound its face 5 times in a row with the same move.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnsyVt4IO5A < Look at that shit. Even the enemies can style. The angel knight dude in the second half was pimp as fuck.

It used to be that the only way to air combo is if you knew the system and you could perform advance techniques. Now its just a launch button, jump, attack.

The only thing legitimately new and badass about DmC that I love is how the world is alive and wants to kill Dante.

The one problem with the debate right now is that you're comparing the nearly game-breaking pro level of gameplay on the highest difficulty to the admitted dumbed-down, tutorial level, showfloor version of a demo still six months out from release.

Aerial combat in the older games wasn't such a main part of the combat, that's why it required the Jump Cancle glitch to do, and why almost all aerial moves sent you and/or the enemy downward. Staying aloft was skill, yes, but only to the extent that you had to start breaking the game to do so. So they made aerial combat easier, it plays into the new use of the environment, but I'm pretty sure if we give it time, even those Truestyle champs could do some crazy stuff with this. If not, I couldn't really care less, and they can continue showing how awesome they can be in DMC3 and 4.

Enjoyed that Credo fight, though. That was bitchin'.

Gotta side with Belts here now:

I play DMC because it's DMC. I don't play it to be 'uber styling' at combos or anything. I like it because they are fun games to play, the games are challenging and I really like the characters also.

Hell I've played all the DMC games up to boot on all difficulties (except Easy and HaH modes) and I never really relied on any 'advanced' combos that require skill like cancelling. (Mostly because I did not know those existed until Nero and I became friends.)

So I don't care about the 'skill factor' here in doing cancels and staying in the air. It was skill enough not using these combos to go through DMD mode, but with them? Eh....

See this is what I mean about the gameplay being different to the DMC games again: I'm not against it but I'm not 'hyped' for it either. My favourite game in the series is still the original DMC game and I'm less enthusiastic about style cancels and all that.

More power to the people who want and can do that stuff, but it's superfluous really. It's cool to see, but you can still get enjoyment out of the game with how it was intended to be played.

I think the one big thing with me is that first and foremost this just looks like a fun action game, and it's a treat that it happens to have DMC concepts to it.

Regardless of whether it ends up pandering to a more casual audience or whatever, to make it a bit easier, isn't such a big deal to me because they didn't end up compromising the DMC franchise. It's like...DMC2 was slow and slightly different, and people hated it, and that was canon, there was no real way to disregard it (I suppose). They were able to bring it back with DMC3 and 4, though. With DmC, it has nothing to do with the original canon. It's really its own game in its own universe.

They didn't compromise the values of the DMC franchise with this entry, because it's not part of it. They were able to make a game like DMC, but with all these changes and tweaks that make it different, which is used to attract a wider audience, they can do so without ruining an entry in the series (like DMC2).

It's actually kinda smart if you think about it, they got to try something new and attract a wider audience without "wasting" an entry in the main series. It totally could have been a new IP, but for whatever reason, they wanted to breathe some new life into the devil May Cry franchise, and they did it in such a way that they can test out things, maybe learn a thing or two, without mucking it up.

Granted, people have every right to be sour that they're working on this and not the actual DMC5, but it's not fair to be angry for them trying something new, especially when by doing so they don't end up repeating DMC2 with DMC5. If people feel that Capcom alienated them, then that's really they're own fault for feeling that way - their Dante, their gameplay, their story, their DMC is still there, intact.

    I still liked DMC2, though >.>
