The online play is locked though so you could only play it online with an EU account and other EU players, plus swapping accounts on the Vita is a total bitch, so it's not worth getting anything outside your region.

Are you referring to Golden's SOS feature? Because many players said that it worked fine when they played the Japanese version on their US and EU accounts. They could even connect to Japanese players.
