Get the Chi-You shortsword, it breaks the game. High damage, very fast and paralyze element? Yes please.
For element simply bring your best elemental gun and your best elemental bullets. Bullets are the fastest way to kill everything.

The Iron Maiden or the Wild Swd one? Because I've been ignoring those for a while just because of the pain in the ass to get materials.

And would that be better? With something like the Borg Short sword which has insanely high pierce or like the Rigoletto with high Divine that can pretty much kill the Quadriga or Fierce Kongou in minutes.

All elemental swords are situational at best.

Your best bets for a shortsword are either the Wild Sword (Chi-You paralysis blade) or the venom pickaxe (poisons the enemy).

Either of these cut down on so much of your combat time and, in the case of the Wild Sword, can free you up for more free devours/damage.

With bullets, make yourself a powerful bullet, then cover all the elements with it. That way, you can adjust your gunslinging to fit the Aragami. Focus on single-target, but try making AoE to mix it up against the weakest Aragami. For barrels, it's personal preference again, but I prefer the Assault barrels for the added mobility, rapid-fire ability, and a massive health boost with my Lv.10.

The shield is really up to you. I personally use a Tower Shield with my Shortsword for the 100% defense, and a buckler with a Buster Blade to maximize the Shield Cancelling speed.

Oh, and farming's gonna be a pain when you're making Lv.10 gear. The trade-in store gives you some easier options, but they happen post-game, and they aren't amazing. That said, Lv.8 or 9 should still be okay before the bonus missions/DLC.

Wild sword and the one from the scorpion things are pretty much the best you can get in terms of shortswords and maybe in melee weapons overall. I never tried the poison pickaxe though, maybe I'll go back to it and level one up.

Other than that, the Konguu Cannon because of all out attack and the dhield from either the Pita or the Caligula, caligula is a little be better and easier to farm.

Damage-wise, it's much better earlier than the Wild Sword, but the paralysis is a better effect late-game and against boss-types (Ouroboros, Hannibal, Arda Nova, Pita).

Poison freaking destroys Aethers (floating laser-shooters), though.

By the way, did anyone notice if the Bind ailment actually did anything?

Bind seals aragami attacks, usually the strongest ones and it lasts a pretty long time.

So Bind is pretty good for a Hannibal then.

As for bullets I already made a homing radial type, it does 3 hits and does near 1000 damage with the Bugle Gun, which is pretty good if I'm not using situational gun. And while were on this, are the status bullets worth making?

And finally, I've been using the Poison Pickaxe when I'm in a mission that has different monsters with different weaknesses although the Pickaxe has been falling behind when it comes to damage, it has 100 or so less attack power than my strongest Short Blade at the moment, which would be the Freezing Knife.
