Better equipment

Hi! I hope you can help me. (Is this even the right place to ask such questions? xD)

I've not finished Dissidia 012 yet. I've just freed that moogle from that chasm or so and it's following me now.
To go on I'd need better equipment if I want to win against Level 100 + enemies. But to get that equipment (resp. the trade accessories for it) I have to beat them.
Is there a simple way to get strong enough to get past them so I can get better equipment?
I'm using Firion the most and this is what I've equipped on him: Cloud Staff, Master Shield, Grand Helm, Rigid Chest Plate. Grand Helm is Level 100 but the rest is 60 - 90.
I'm already at Level 100 but I'm just not good enough to beat such strong enemies.
It's already extremely hard to beat the Level 100 Assists.

(Oh, and another questions - I was just running around the Gulg Volcano area. And Kain was standing there (I have him in my team). I've talked to him, he said something like "Prepare yourself" and dissapeared. I've never seen one of my characters standing around somewhere on the world map. Is it normal that they're sometimes there?)
