    Default Golbez FAQ [WIP]

    Updating slowly...

    Golbez FAQ (Currently Under Construction)
    Looks messy right now but I'm still working on it. I'll work on nice looking formats and stuff later

    Who is Golbez? [GOL01]

    Theodor ‘Golbez’ Harvey was one of the primary antagonists of Final Fantasy IV and appeared as a party member in its sequel, The After Years.

    A powerful sorcerer and master manipulator (who in turn was manipulated himself), Golbez took control of Baron and the Red Wings early in Final Fantasy IV’s plot and remained the biggest threat to Cecil's party until the final stages of the game.

    When Golbez finally awoke from Zemus' mind-control, he felt such remorse at his actions that he resolved to atone for his sins - by taking on Zemus with FuSoYa.

    While he vanquished Zemus’ mortal shell, Zemus’ hatred continued to live on and overwhelmed them both, leaving the final battle up to his brother’s party.

    Following Final Fantasy IV, Golbez remained on the moon until the events of The After Years bring him to the forefront of the battle against Maenad and the Creator.

    Thanks to Zerrat for typing this

    Character Analysis [GOL02]

    Moveset Analysis (Brave Attacks)[GOL03]

    Attack System

    This is Golbez's best pressuring option along with Glare Hand and can combo in all of his attacks. The downside of this move is the startup can be easily punished the randomness of the lasers.

    Rising Wave

    Golbez's most damaging move, best done after a Riposte or a combo. The melee part of this move is the slowest out of all his ground attacks so I tend to avoid using it randomly. The magic part of this move has extremely high priority and will stop any kind of physical attack that goes through it, any ranged attack will just pass through this move without being deflected.

    Glare Hand [No Pic Yet]

    This is going to be your most used move for Golbez and is extremely important to his ground game. The magic part of this attack combos into any move and is hard to punish on startup and end. Best for punishing whiffed attacks or bad dodges. The melee part of this move has the fastest startup frames out of all of his attacks so it is an effective tool to make your opponent keep their distance.

    Float System

    A mediocre punishing move, best used after a combo. Whiffing with this will usually get Golbez hit afterwards so try to avoid randomly doing this. Alsonote that this move always activates Sneak Attack (along with Gravity System)

    Gravity System

    Similar to Float System but it has a MUCH better hitbox and can actually catch your opponent's dodges and dashes if used correctly.

    Gravity Force

    Golbez's worst move, other than doing this after a block, it is completely useless.

    Glare Hand/Rising Wave BP Chain

    If these hits crit, they hurt. Otherwise they do pretty low damage.

    Gravity/Float System BP Chain

    Because of Float/Gravity System activating Sneak attack prior to this, both hits have a high chance of critting. Does decent damage.

    Moveset Analysis (HP Attacks)[GOL04]
    ~Under Construction~

    Nightglow

    Absolutely amazing move for Golbez. This will be Golbez's best way of dealing reliable HP damage because of this move's 100% wall rush rate (Except on Rift and Planet's Core). This move will clash with almost every HP attack in the game

    Genesis Rock

    Great pressuring move in corners or when your really high above your opponent (the rocks suck your opponent up) Not recommend this move be spammed as it is easily punishable.

    Cosmic Ray

    Nice simple and flashy HP chain. Charging it gives it teleportation properties and can hit your opponent from halfway across the map as well as setup for some mindgames.

    Black Fang

    Combos [GOL05]
    INCOMPLETE!

    Legend for this section:
    DC = Dodge Cancel
    TDC = Turn Dodge Cancel (A dodge that goes behind the opponent. Works best if you turn the camera to the side)
    RDC = Return Dodge Cancel (A dodge cancel where you press back as you dodge and then press forward to shorten the length of the dodge.
    FDC = Forward Dodge Cancel
    NDC = Neutral Dodge Cancel
    EXC = EX Cancel

    Basic Combos:
    Rise Wave (Melee) -> FDC -> Float System/Gravity System -> BP/HP Chain
    Golbez's most basic and most useful combo, you'll probably be using this combo alot in matches

    Rise Wave (Range) -> FDC -> Float System/Gravity System -> BP/HP Chain
    If your opponent gets hits by the range part of Rise Wave then this combo will do more dmage then going straight for the normal BP chain

    Attack System -> Glare Hand -> NDC -> Float System/Gravity System -> BP/HP Chain

    Intermidiate Combos:
    Rise Wave -> FDC -> Float System -> TDC or RDC -> Gravity System -> BP/HP Chain

    Attack System -> Glare Hand -> NDC -> Float System -> TDC or RDC -> Gravity System -> BP/HP Chain

    Attack System -> Rise Wave (Far) -> BP/HP Chain

    Attack System -> Rise Wave (Close) -> Float System -> TDC or RDC -> Gravity System -> BP/HP Chain
    Hard combo to pull off because of proper spacing and some luck

    Attack System -> Glare Hand -> Landing Lag or RDC-> Rise Wave -> FDC -> Float System -> TDC or RDC -> Gravity System -> BP/HP Chain
    You can do Glare Hand -> Rise Wave without dodge canceling by timing it (landing lag must be present)

    Advanced Combos
    Rise Wave (Melee) -> Glare Hand -> NDC -> Float System/Gravity System -> BP/HP Chain
    This combo actually works sometimes but is not recommended to be tried in a real match

    Glare Hand -> Night Glow
    I find this works best if Cosmic Ray is not equipped on Glare Hand.

    Glare Hand -> RDC? -> Gravity Force
    I struggle to pull this off in most battles because you must dodge ASAP (You can't wait to see if you hit the opponent). A RDC may make it easier to pull off?

    EX Combos
    Rise Wave (Melee) -> FDC -> Float System -> EX Cancel -> Float System
    Most basic EX combo but quite effective if used right

    Video Section [GOL07]
    ~OUT OF DATE (Will put newer video's here later)~

    Shows a few combos:
    Gravity Force -> DC -> Gravity System -> BP/HP Chain
    Glare Hand -> DC -> Gravity Force -> DC -> Gravity System -> BP/HP Chain
    Also at the end shows the usefulness of a charged Cosmic Ray =)

    The only video in this set where I actually pull off combos >_>
    This video shows how the Float System -> Gravity System combo can be quite useful (If I didn't do the combo it wouldn't have broke him)

    The true potential of Nightglow
    Shows the Glare Hand -> RDC -> Rise Wave combo BUT I did it against a wall >_>

    Nothing really special here, just shows the Attack System -> Rise Wave (Range Hit) -> Forward DC -> Float System combo and a good battle =D

    I've a question:
    What he says when you do the final ex move?
    I hear:
    Glide in my own(?) shadows,
    Light and dark above
    *$#@!"%&* the stars!

    What he says? o_O
    I'm italian, sorry for my bad english. :S

    Guide my inner shadow
    Light and dark above

    >Not perfect: I tire of this....
    >Perfect: Transcend the stars!
    (Dragon: Give your power to Meteor!): Very well.

    Wow this is a great FAQ this will help any golbez mainer or newbie alike

    but I have one question:

    I don't epuip gravityforce but when I used to I always used the combo: glarehand>gravityforce>genesisrock and it always works and it takes a lot of brv which is good but my question is..... Is it worth to equip gravityforce for just this combo? or should I just forget it?
