Default How could I've ignore this game?!

Well, when I first got my PSP..the shop owner gave me a copy of Star Ocean:The First Departure F.O.C(meh the shop owner and I goes wayyyyyy back)...anyways I said no thanks as I saw the graphic was crappy and thinking its just a lazy port(though I saw on the net that it was very popular)...I ignore it and happily play my Crisis Core copy....

    That was 8 months ago.

Fed up after hundreds of hours of Dissidia,I finally gave Star Ocean a try.At first..it was still....meh...thought it would be boring and stuff...UNTIL the story begins...I was dumb-founded...I cant believe how awesome the story is!(to the point I can ignore the fact that the battle system is rather harsh)

The storyline is just...WOW....I could saw some similarity(Xenosaga....and mayb its just my imagination...Tales of Eternia..that being said the latter is one of my favorite games)
Battle system-wise,I'm not really fond of it(used to Tales series)
Conclusion,I was a fool for ignoring this game and Im now completely in love with the series!

    ...whatever..

Haha yeah the star ocean games are great the first two came out in the early days of Playstation (obviously for the PS) if my memory serves. Actually until the PSP version of First Departure it was a relatively unknown game. The series really shined with Star Ocean the Second Story (Second Evolution for PSP) but no one really cared for the first game back then. If you don't already have it get Second Evolution for the PSP, you don't even need to finish the first one to play it as the story's don't really have anything to do with each other beyond the fact that in second evolution you play Ronyx's son Claude who accidentally get teliported to an unknown planet, up until FF7 it was considered one of the best PS RPGs one could get its only short coming was the graphics didn't change at all from the first game oh and the battle system stayed but wasn't really improved on at all xP.

    Is it really that great?
Coz I wanna buy something new to play and I don't know what.
I really love games with great storylines, like some FFs, MGS4, Golden Sun, etc.

So, is it really that great? Can I buy it without complaint?

GReat. I don't care too much about combat mechanisms anyway. If it has a great story, I play it

    Thanks for the tipp then.

I'm happy enough you can actually run around in battle. The battle system would be WAYYY boring without any control to run around.

I like to use Roddick in SOFD [I'm RoddickFarrence589 in YouTube], hes my Star Ocean main char. !

Yes, Star Ocean is an awesome series.

I would advice you to get into the series, but first I have to ask what you are looking for.

SO1 was great all around, but as one of the people who played the original, I was a little disappointed w/ post game.
SO2 remake is great and has lots of potential and replay value with the ability to choose your protagonist.
SO3, while someone said the plot twist killed the game, has the best battle system in the whole series. I personally thought the twist was sort of innovative when it was released, but it's totally up to personal preference. Do give all the game a try. You will not be disappointed.

I'm not gonna give a word on SO4, since I'm also looking forward to play it as well.

well, SO2 was a good game, lots of ending possibilities and good gameplay (tough a bit unbalanced), but man it was buggy on psx. i do hope they settled everything up in the psp ports since i'd like to try it along with SO remake
There was a HOLE here. It's gone now.
