Except a competent Firion of CoD will just walk/float back and wait for the explosion. You would literally need to be point blank if you expect the ball to hit and actually do damage.

Thanks for clearing my doubt.
But most of the time the explosions occur behind Firion or CoD so this is based totally on the experience of the Firion or CoD I was up against
