Ultimecia's Motive

So, while posting in a thread elsewhere in this forum about villains and their motives, I was reminded about how I never figured out the whole reasoning behind Ultimecia's desire to compress all time.

FFVIII's one of my favorite in the series (I'm in the minority, I know). But it's always confused me and I always wonder whether or not I missed something in the game that explains Ultimecia's motive.

Anybody know or have any insights?

Yeah but apparently SQEX denied that Rinoa is Ultimecia.

They did, but some people hold onto it hoping for Square to reconsider. That or they can't accept that their dreams have been crushed. Maybe it's both.

Pretty much, she wanted to rule over everything, since you see in the final battle that she's starting to absorb everything (which means that she is everything). How, I have no clue, but I'll just go with the game. But because she fucked with time, she started a time loop where she always dies. Go figure.

Ultimecia was pretty much hated her whole life from the very beginning for having the misfortune of becoming a Sorceress. Being hated her whole entire life for no good reason, she wanted to create a world in which only she could exist. To do that, she had to compress time and space and absorb it all so she would literally become everything.

Perhaps she just succumbed to her destiny? Perhaps she knew all along she'd die, and that she was just playing a part?

Or maybe she's just insane...

As far as I can see from VIII's nonsensical story. Ultemecias motive was never clearly explained so I just say she did it for shits and giggles. I guess the writers were on their day off when they had to come up with the plot.

Blame the translators. The Japanese text had a lot more then the English one.

I've heard it explained before.

She was just another power-hunger Sorceress that wanted world domination.

But she had a different way of achieving it.

To become queen of life, universe, and everything, she wanted to compress all time- the past, the present, and the future - all into one moment where she would be ruler, not only of the age she was living in, but the ruler of all ages, for always and eternity. It's basically a god-like lust.
