There are two problems with that creativity (relating to DLC characters).
1: The software wasn't designed to handle this sort of task meaning they'd need to throw around some resources (see: software designers/architects) to basically mess with some way of getting them functioning in the game (from my point of view, this is really best tackled through the install functionality - there might be some ways to "hack" an insertion through there?) but it would be messy at best.
2: They have their resources allocated to projects that will appeal to more than a handful of dedicated players worldwide. From a business standpoint, their money is DEFINITELY not best served on improving DDFF specifically.
If anything, SE is best off hitting Dissidia in its next iteration (as a competitive head to head action game or whatever the cool kids are calling it these days :P).
To be honest, though - proper software design for upgrading games like this on a whim will never really be employed because it takes away a lot of other business oriented options (like DDFF from DFF instead of just "updating" DFF). If you want a company to do that and get their fill on profits, they basically need to either employ a micro transaction business model or a subscription based business model (ironically - both are generally employed by MMOs).
But keep dreaming - and make your voices heard... maybe we'd see a proper Dissidia 3 if the demand warrants it.

Yeah, I don't really see them releasing anything at this point- they've released one for every game represented, and IX is the only one where more than one character has their DLC come from the PSN.
If they were to release any, it might be for Kain and Golbez, since IV doesn't have any DLC costumes from the PSN, but I'm not getting my hopes up. It'd be nice, especially to get more villians, but I doubt it happening for a while.
Does that mean Tidus has a DLC costume? Sorry if this has been stated, but I don't see it on the first page and I dont wanna read through this entire thread. :x
