Is it a good FF to start with?

I say VIII : D It's what I started off with and its a REAAAAAALLYY good game. :3

Or if you don't want to, start off with X. FFVII is overrated, and not saying its a good or bad game since I havent played it..

Ok, personal opinion, go for FFVI, Kefka is by far the best villain IMO, I absolutely loved Celes, there's the biggest playable character roster in any game so far (IIRC). And it's not a biased opinion since it's not the first game I played (I played 3 *shudder*....not my favourite game in the series) 2D graphics mean next to nothing in an FF game, as the game is mainly storyline.

But FFVIII is good too.

Yes start with 6! That one is a must play. And I like 4, but if you can't stand the graphics like my little brother then start with 9 or 10. Both of those are pretty good as well. 7 is probably one of the best too if you can get your hands on it.

How did you work that out? I played both the JP and Eu versions of VII and still think it is very overrated. It gets too much praise for what it is. It is a good game, but it isn't amazing.

What? No, as Erika said, it's overrated (as an FF game at least) as hell. There are far superior Final Fantasies than VII or X. Only in Europe really should FFVII be considered 'the epitome of greatness in FF' as it is what introduced the Final Fantasy series to Europe and people tend to love the game that they start with.

Infact I even stated that I found it overrated, it's the first Final Fantasy I played due to being in Europe AND I even played it very recently! (A month back iirc.)

But yea, I'm glad you made your choice. FFVIII is a fun game. It's incredibly fun when you realize just how broke you can be. That's honest to god truth, I love FFVIII just because of the system. But the story itself is pretty clever as well (Just it may take you two-three attempts through to figure out the REAL depth to the story.) It's probably one of the hardest stories to digest but to me that's what REALLY makes it good.



I want to address an issue with 'overrated' however. The three games in the FF series considered overrated are FFVI and FFVII. These are the two people harp on about the most. FFX is up there believe me but those are the games considered 'overrated.' It's a matter of personal taste if you like the game, feel it's overrated or not and quite honestly I'm actually quite honestly shocked and horrified that a guy who wanted a game recommendation ends up having a three page thread about FFVII being overrated or not. Personally I like the majority of the games but I'm not going to rant to the end about how FFX is overrated (Because I feel it is and I personally don't care for it as much as others.)

Let's end the drama about over/underating. I'd actually like to try all of them FF games. But VII would be pretty hard to play just because of graphics: it's worser than both VI and VIII - 2D graphics are nice and pleasuring to watch on, and VIII made better 3D graph. But I'll overcome this. Graphics don't matter if there's cool gameplay.

Nostalgia goggles make everything look better. For a lot of people it was their first Final Fantasy.
